Is there a hack for this? I would just take a knife and go around the bread in the pan...

Run a butter or plastic knife around the edge to loosen it . Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then take both hands and place them close to the edges of the cornbread and slowly start to move the cornbread either clockwise or counter clockwise. When you feel the cornbread grab the bottom of the pan, switch directions. You may have to switch directions more than once. You will feel the cornbread release and then you can turn it upside down onto a plate. I've done this before and it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, the food will still taste good.

Your cast iron should be kept with some oil in it unless enameled. Otherwise, melt butter in the pan before putting the batter in.

Preheat pan in oven at 425 degrees. Pull pan from oven….drop in lard or butter….at least half a stick….it will sizzle…then quickly add cornbread batter while still sizzling. Put pan back in oven for 20-25 minutes….remove from oven and let sit for 15 minutes. If using a seasoned cast iron pan this works every single time, effortlessly.

Did you season the pan? Did you use lard, NOT oil to prep the skillet?
