On the contrary these things wers struturally tough as old boots. They won a fledgling vehicle safety award, and you will never find one today with gelcoat stress cracks unless its had a nudge (compare that with a Scimitar). I had several and could not push them un-aided in my garage, by contrast my 1998 Esprit I could push myself fairly easily. Definitely not one of Colin Chapmans legendary "added lightness " cars, as they used the revolutionary VARI resin injection adn I think erred on the cautious side of thickness as still getting used to it..

All very well but what Clarkson's really saying is that he is mourning the death of the series 3 so badly that he has to heap praise on something that is not quite up to proper series 3 standards not altogether there, awkward styling from many angles , doesnt tick all the boxes in the way that a series 2 or 3 does , not quite sure who its parents are despite its provinance , somewhat of a throw back, if it were a pedigree dog, it would be the runt of the litter but a good dog just the same except that doesnt have the wow factor . Even Clarkson said of the series 3 that it was a safe place, the safest place to be in a world of trouble , a cocoon of excelence and then stupid Jaguar management made the appalling xj40 and tried to make all subsequent efforts resemble the series 3 , but they couldnt , everybody knows that you cant polish a turd for that is what this x350xjr is because what it isnt , is a series 3 .

Absolutely TOP car. There is no more comfortable way to travel today. It's a pity that Jaguar doesn't cultivate its fans of tradition. It is difficult to get spare parts, even fan articles are in short supply.

@@Yabuddy53 Yeah it's nice you like the old classic body shapes but the new cars are not any less Jaguar than the old ones.. The founder designed cars that at the time were very modern, had he been alive today he would still be designing modern cars. The reason why Jaguar stuck with old designs for so long was only because as part of British Leyland they were starved of money, they then got floated on the stock market and money was invested in better reliability, then when Ford bought them they weren't ballsy enough to keep up with the times. Foreign owners seem to think British brands are some kind of retro thing but they aren't. Witness how BMW completely destroyed Rover by forcing old fashioned designs on them.

Great car. My old 1996 Jaguar Xj6 is at 289,000 original miles. Still my daily driver for over 15 years here in the US. The old X300 model still proved as timeless and very reliable car . I am looking to reach 400,000 miles before putting it to rest to restore it and drive it over the weekends. I love this brand and I am grateful to have a privilege driving a Jaguar car. Genuine British engine craftsmanship.

I still miss the Jaguar XJ6 that we sold on due to the DPF getting blocked again. N15BLR thankfully is still on the road. Loved it's luxury and style. Alas the Rover 75 Classic that we now own has quite a few design features that I am not to keen on, the dashboard, door cards, the absurd steering wheel that includes radio controls despite it having a base radio/cassette. It was strange that a VW Polo had a much better ICE system and not forgetting the seat fabric, it feels as if it came from Brentford Nylons. Yes, I do miss our former XJ6 TVDi. The Rover uses too many German parts, it's more like spot the British part. Bloody BMW!
