If you get can either for a good price second hand then you have to think what are you after, photo RX100 I would presume, but I got the ZV1 for its video features. Both are good depending on your needs and what you can get for the price. I wouldn’t recommend it at it’s full price.

It’s just for the Samyang V-AF series (for Sony emount) but Sony made lenses no as the V-AF lenses have electronic connectors on the front as well as connecting points. I have reviewed 3 of the lenses on this channel if you want to check them out.

I went back and checked it the footage was on my sigma 28 to 70 but when I was demonstrating how it works the images of the camera had the Samyang 24mm with the adapter. So to make it clear I put on the screen what lens I was using. I was using the 28 to 70 on another camera when I shot the adapter so I couldn’t use it at the time. So all the proper info was on the screen and I mentioned on the commentary. Now all the info is here too

That’s a good question, the footage was from a while ago and I sold the ZV-E10 to help fun another purchase (though I do want to get the mark 2 when it comes out). From memory it would have been around -3 and some of the shots would be using a freewell ND filer / black mist filter that would have soften the image as well.

What's up with manufacturers seemingly making up the squeeze ratio of lenses? There's nothing wrong with 1.7x. Just my question is, why 1.7x instead of 2x or 1.5x?

@jordanwright5795
@jordanwright5795 4 ай бұрын
@@Superbustr well given that most stretch ratios other than 1.33x and 2x are sort of arbitrary I don’t see what the difference between a lens manufacturer deciding to make a 1.7x vs a 1.5x. I think having additional squeeze ratios is helpful for some of the oddball sized sensors that are on some of the cameras we have now. my RED Komodo has a slightly wider than normal sensor and one of my Kinefinity cameras and my XH2s have taller sensors when shot in open gate. Not every sensor fits neatly into the 1.33x for 16:9 to get a 2.40.1 or 2x for 4:3 to get 2.40.1 Options are a good thing and these lenses with ability to configure your NLE and equipment is getting more flexible all the time. But ok…

Hi Neil, Because of you I bought a sirui anamorphic adapter. When I found out how with it is easy to focus I bought focus wheel and started testing it with many cheap and not so cheap vintage lenses and it is amazing. Old vintage lenses like Helios 44-2 were made mainly for photography and focus takes like 2-3 full turns on this vintage lenses to reach infinity focus. It is not so good for video and introduces shakes, focus is choppy. With sirui adapter it is smooth like in rehaused helios 44-2 for 3k USD. So thank you for introducing me to this adapter but my wife and my bank account are not so happy now - i bought dji rs3 pro and lidar autofocus just to be able to solo shoot anyhting on this vintage lenses + sirui adapter. Bought silver version of helios lens 44-2 which is the best for video , the diffrence is huge between versions of those but the silver ones were supposedly made from original carl zaiss glass with diffrent coatings and more blades inside. 77-m4 is also quite good for video with new coatings and still swirls but the contrast is kept under bad lighting coditions. You can look also into mir-1b 37m 2.8 lens - my copy is easly matched in post wih 44-2 for wider look. I also got 85mm 1.5 helios from new production line (you can buy it in like moldavia, they make it in russia and import is banned) . Same vintage glass as in 85mm but without bubbles inside and with better coatings. The look you can get with srui adapter on it is even more dreammy, swirly bokeh is much stronger than 44-2 but sharpnes around the corners is obliterated. Forgot to add that helios 85mm + sirui adapter weights more than 1kg so heavy beast and I basically need to rig the camera for it. It is not point and shoot :D

But btw to any one reading the comments Helios 77m-4 is also dirt cheap and better quality then most 44-2. 77m-4 is a newer brother that may be worse for photo but for video build quality is usually better (44-2 and ther are 7 different versions made in diffrent plants with different quality issues that make some 44-2 look like a cinema glass and some like a cheap russian lens toy, can wobble on the mount when focusing, sharpness can be or not be there depending on the unit, coatings are crap or good, even if you get 2 lenses from the same plant and same year it can be better or worse). Good thing those are so simple to strip apart and clean up that some of this issues you are able to solve by yourself. But if it is wobbly at the lens mount it will be a crap for video no matter what you do. 77 m4 have better coatings, no grease on the blades and I never heard that someone got wobbly mount on those. Also important thing - they look the best on the full frame, like in the lens corners is all the helios look and character, in apsc swirls are not so noticeable. You will need a speedboster and it is not cheap. There is ttartisian 27 / 2.8 apsc lens for 200$ and it costs less then speedbooster, has autofocus and vintage character like helios, also swirls so basically modern helios with 39 equivalent in apsc.

My guess ...it's just not the way it works ...it's the same as using a manual rear lens and then adjust the focusring on this rear lens seperatly from the adapter. It results in out of focus & distorted (not alligned) images, simply because it can't focus that way. I also see it in this video.

It is possible not the best but it worked. Edit I also set the focus on the adapter to 0.8, I also get what you’re saying when back focusing it should not be able to keep up as the front part does the focus. But it does have a little wiggle room.

Depends on the taking lens. Some pair pretty crisp while others look like this. Number of elements plays a role too. One downside about the anamorphot is that you can't put it on an 85mm lens. Biggest one is 65. You could stack this on a mamiya 80mm 1.9, stretching an "open gate" medium format shot, (speed boosted or GFX). Closest thing to a poor man IMAX image circle.

I would also like to add that this adapter is a great solution for any vintage lens you want to attach a focus motor or mini follow focus to. There's no need for rehousing the lens or 3D printing follow focus rings. Sometimes, cheap vintage lenses are rendered unusable for video due to wear and tear. Issues such as the focus wheel not working smoothly or requiring too many turns to bring something into focus quickly can be problematic. However, if you set the vintage lens to infinity focus and then adjust focus using this adapter, it works wonderfully.

You might have to crop in a little, if you are on a Sony camera clear image zoom will do this or use active steady shot. You can also do it in post it won’t be to noticeable. I get the same and used the above. The 50 min is fine. You will also notice if you are filming things further away is till get better. As on the Sirui anamorphic lenses there is some focus breathing. Not the perfect answer but hope it helps.
