You said there's three things wrong in a row, I was like I see two of them but for the liife of me couldn't see the third ..and thought you meant the resistor (which did turn out to be burnt up along with the rest of them, but not what you were talking about at that point), then you pointed out what used to be a disk cap .. I was like holy cow, I thought that was a burnt bit of flux on the board it's so dang crispy!

I just found your vids randomly the other day, and watched a few of your really old vids, and a couple of new ones. Some of the repairs of other brand amps, as well as your own builds, listened to a bit of your amp building philosify and thought I'd chime in with that there's nothing wrong with looking at an old version of something you built that might not be the way you do it now. The whole point of you not doing it that way anymore is the willingness and drive to improve and get better at something. I'd be more concerned if the amps were exactly the same 10 years later (putting aside tried and tested methods that just work and are timeless, and from the point of view of someone starting out and learning to be the best they can be at what they do over a decade or two). I'd be even more concerned if the amps got worse over time, like some of the ones you've fixed from other places! xD

I have had a love hate relationship with this amp, since I screwed up and hooked it up backwards after many happy years of use. After it was repaired by MFJ, it will hardly take any reflect at all to overload it, so I usually just run lower power. Next time you get one show us a reliable way to make that adjustment please (。 ▼皿▼) Excellent work Masta' 73's🎙KD9OAM

I’m curious about the HG’s, the 16D(?) 2879 cross reference. If you’re not planning to overvolt and give it the beans, are they a pretty decent part? I’m looking to get a TS500 with HG’s so it’s easy to swap transistors out down the line. Is there a lot to change going from Toshiba to HG? Do you have to rewind the ferrite’s? I just want a workhorse that’s low maintenance.

Great job BBI ! Thank you for pointing out RF exposure danger on higher frequencies' ! Their is 2 parts of that. The DBM level of RF and the frequency . then you have distance. On some QMRS channels 50 watts is max legal power. At that UHF 70CM a few watts makes 0 difference to the receive on outher end. You just burn up more heat in the amp and draw more amperage . Just a waste. I drop PA section in repeaters VHF/UHF ones down a few watts. The GMRS one does 40 watts after duplexer. no one can tell i dropped it from 50. The PA amp runs cooler ! What I would see change is the FCC regulations on harmonic's over 225 MHZ one. THERE IS NONE ! I feel that is wrong and needs to change. Set some standards for UHF and microwave harmonics emissions . Just my personal feeling on that. 73
