Really curious how this is going to pan out because I travel from Castle Hill but work at Wynyard. You really can't beat the convenience of travelling from Chatswood to Wynyard on the train right now, but if the metro will be that much faster even if I have to alight at Barangaroo and walk...

Good video you both made. I will still tap on with Trains driven by humans, and supporting jobs for Guards, Drivers, and the Station staff. To me it Doesn't matter if its slower because the trains are double decked and harder to unload, and the lines have more stops, I will still always support the Men and Women working. The metro should be using the Tranport NSW voice by Taylor Owynns for the Door opening sound. And it should be "Doors opening please stand clear" not that other robotic crap. The metro shouldn't be on a long line if the trains don't support it. A metro if for short populated distances, not long ones like it is. Thats why the T Sets are amazing, you can actually sit down in comfort. There obviously weren't enough strikes because now we will see a bye bye to our T sets, bye bye to the jobs of hundreds. All so the lines can be converted to this Metro crap. We didn't need a war against our Train staff, we already have one in our buses after the state privitised everything. The metro marks the beginning of a slow process to wipe out humans from our transport, and also our fleet of reliable,Australian made trains ,and replace them with some stupid computerised crap ( made overseas ). Goodluck.
@TransportVlogКүн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes I'm not a fan of the robotic voices! No drivers or guards are losing their jobs because of the metro. The drivers and guards on the T3 will be redeployed on the T2 and T8 along with the Waratah trains. T sets will be around for at least another 10 years, which is why they are being refurbished.

@TransportVlogКүн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! The Airport-Leppington-Glenfield extension is still in the planning stages, and I think it will be a few years before we see work on this starting. Same goes for the extension from St Marys to Tallawong. There isn't as much money available now as there was a few years ago, so I think we're going to see less new lines being approved for a while.

@@TransportVlog Thanks Paul for the insights! Unfortunately we at the mercy of the ministers unlike Singapore. Whilst getting these essential infrastructure underway is the right step in the right direction, I’m afraid it’s not enough to build a robust and sensible one! My point being when developing something don’t do it in bits and pieces make something that really connects the greater Sydney. This is why the Govt has no business being in Business! They should just make policies period. 😄

You both have excellent KZfaq sites. This combined episode is somewhat rediculous. The Metro is not a duplication as it routes to new sites that reduce walking time and train crowding. We should be impressed with the politicians who pushed the project through at immense expense but even higher value to the community. Transport NSW should be congratulated on the parts it played and still does. This praise was last offered to all parties involved in the Sydney Olympics.
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
Thanks Douglas, that's right, and that's the reason we included examples of time savings from other destinations. Crows Nest, Barangaroo and Waterloo serve new areas, so by definition are going to be much quicker than the equivalent journey by existing trains and buses.

When the Metro starts running all the way to Bankstown, I assume that Erskineville and St Peters Stations will be serviced by those Illawarra Line trains which presently usually don't stop there. That will slightly increase the travel times for some services on that Line. Interesting fact about St Peters Station: Although the Sydney trams on the "green lines" (Inner south-west) through Newtown closed in September 1957, trams still ran to St Peters Station via the (then still open) Eastern Suburbs system from Redfern via Alexandria until 1959.
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
Erskineville and St Peters stations are actually going to be served by the T8! The Macarthur trains are going to be rerouted via Sydenham and stop at these stations. Thanks for the interesting fact about St Peters Station!
@nicholetheotter19579 күн бұрын
@@TransportVlogThey’re going to be serviced by the T8 for around a year, with transfer to the T4 line to be done in 2025. I guess the change from T8 to T4 for St Peters and Erskineville will be after both the Sydenham to Bankstown extension of the M1 line (the Metro line’s new number) and the realignment of tracks for SCO intercity services to use Illawarra locals instead of Illawarra mains from Central to Hurstville. It’s not sure yet where those T8 services will terminate, but that route in the peak currently tends to terminate at Campbelltown instead of Macarthur.

16:15 There is a permanent speed restriction on the above-ground tracks from Town Hall to Central where they pass under the Goulburn Street Parking Station. The original piers of the Parking station were rather thin but were reinforced after the Granville Accident, fearing that a derailment under the parking station could bring the lot down on a train with consequences much worse that Granville. Even so, caution rules the speeds of trains passing under the parking station. Ironic that a parking station, encouraging people to drive into the CBD, should be built over public transport! Very 1960's thinking!
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
I wasn't aware of that, and I've been in that car park and heard the trains down below. It's a shame that this car park affects the speed in this area. And slower trains, means less trains per hour, so its affecting capacity too.
@OldAussieAds9 күн бұрын
I often wonder about bad places for derailments. My biggest fear is northbound on John Whitton Bridge (Rhodes to Meadowbank) and along Mullet Creek between Hawkesbury River and Wondabyne.

"T4"? Oh, you mean the Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line? Best not to use those designations for the suburban lines that Transport4NSW uses; people not familiar with Sydney's System won't know what you mean. (Whoever in T4NSW who came up with "T1, T4" etc must have had a lot of spare time on their hands, or maybe just trying to justify their job).
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
Yes that's right. T4 is much easier to say, and regular travellers are familiar with the numbers. And those who are not, can always Google them, or use the transport apps.

The Line between Waverton and St Leonards could have been constructed straighter, but it then would have had gradients too steep for the 1890s steam trains to handle.

@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
Hi Peter, its going to be quicker than now for 3 reasons. Firstly, the trains will have faster acceleration and deceleration, and hopefully the line will have a faster top speed too. Secondly, the frequency will be much better, with a train every 4 mins in the peak, so less waiting time. Thirdly, the time from Sydenham to Central is just 7 mins, compared 10 mins on the T3.

The new extension will be great but as many have pointed out: It might be TOO fast - the distance between stations is way too long on most sections. If there would be more stations it would still be faster than today, but many more places would get metro access. This is even worse for the Metro West
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
Hi Nicolas, there are some gaps, eg Castle Hill to Cherrybrook and North Ryde to Chatswood, but most stations are 2 or 3 minutes apart which is similar to most metro systems around the world. Its likely that Metro West will now have 1, possibly 2 new stations between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park, and I'm really hoping that happens!
@nicholetheotter19579 күн бұрын
@@TransportVlogThe long gap is Cherrybrook to Epping, around 6-7 mins long to traverse. Cherrybrook to Castle Hill is much shorter than that. Waterloo to Sydenham is another gap that’s around 5 mins long.

The big disappointment is that the metro won't deliver broader savings to the lower north shore, northern beaches and inner south because of the lack of decent bus and light rail connections at Crows Nest, Victoria X, and Waterloo.

I think we need to get rid of many northern beaches services off the miltary or spit rd (for at least anything north of narrabeen). If i were the government, i would like to see an experiment with the 190x of doing the usual avalon to narrabeen all stops and then rather than to go via dee why and usual route, its will get sent via frenches forest (following route 270) and express to cbd. Also maybe an promotion of the 160x to chatswood. I think if labor didn't can the northern beaches road tunnel, I would like to see some kind of conversion of the old tram lines (which is one bus southbound and other is car), to be converted into a pure busway (current bus southbound will be northbound and the car lane will be southbound, with a larger barrier so no crashes and the old platform 1-2 of wynard gets converted into a bus port, bit like bondi jct bus port). Cahill expressway get converted to some green roof or whatnot. But for that to work, the western harbor tunnel needs to exist. I think even without the northern beaches tunnel, the busway can still somewhat work. Also a station can happen on the busway in north sydney somewhere and a bridge to lead buses to the right side of the road as well.
@TransportVlog10 күн бұрын
I reckon bus services around the metro stations will improve over time. There are some changes from day 1, and bus stops will be closer to the new stations than they are now.
