Matty is definitely correct, when the balls in play union is so much faster, much more options to take, every tackle could be a turnover, lot more kicking all over the field. Whereas league you know generally what’s going to be happening on the next tackle and the one after that. Btw I love both codes.

Too be fair I predicted a record Queensland score which did happen...however if Reese doesn't get taken out and it's a 13 on 13 player game I think the score is bigger. The send off/takeout actually saved NSW from a worse score line✌

I don't understand the glee some people get out of union taking hits. People who haven't seen a game of union for twenty years are full of opinions on what it's like to watch. It's like judging the NRL on the 400 people the Bulldogs used to get to Stadium Australia every week in the early noughties. As Australians, don't we all want to see the Wallabies do well. Or are we just content to hibernate and pat ourselves on the back for succeeding at sports no one else plays.

Thats why the NRL rebranded the "AUCKLAND" Warriors to "NEW ZEALAND" Warriors... there's no way NRL are going 2nd NZ Team...if they did,it would be a major blow to the NZRFU.

The titans should become the bears to match up with the north Sydney bears and the Burleigh bears in QLD cup and that strengthens the gold coast team which has always struggled but with a larger support base could thrive. Newtown can merge with WA and have the same affect which will put them on the front foot to start with with a starved and loyal support base too✌🍻

I got into nrl living in NZ in 2006 and still follow it. But the rugby world cup in France proves union is a proper global game and when played properly nothing beats it. Union is like test cricket and league is like T20.

The South Island’s has always had a strong rugby league history & could be the ideal location for a 2nd NRL team. The wahs recruitment would definitely be impacted but having direct competition from a 2nd nz based team in the long run should built an overall stronger more competitive nz rugby league. The rivalry of the North Island vs South Island possibilities are endless. A “origin” style competition & tournaments from school, juniors woman’s & mens through to NRL would have the potential to make nz a genuine heavyweight on the field & at the negotiating table. Be based in Christchurch take games to Dunedin, Nelson, Queenstown, Invercargill etc. build a self sustaining quality player & coaches pool as the long term goal with inter island & Aussie player recruitment to complement on top of that.

A terrible idea, Perth works for afl as it’s closer to Adelaide and Melbourne. No Adelaide nrl teams. How are the force going?, really bad as again no Adelaide team or Melbourne now. How about no expansion necessary and leave it at that. The warriors came good last year after so many pre Covid years of garbage and one 8th place finish, no 2nd team required. Titans are really bad. And the afl suns only exist to compete with nrl titans.

l've been reading lots of comments where NSW supporters and commentators suggested NSW couldn't win after the 7 minute send off. Why not. Yes it' a tough ask but surely the NSW players and coaching staff didn't throw in the towel. How do you think the Qld side would have reacted to a 7 minute send off, the same way the NSW team reacted, step up and give it 110%. 18 minutes to go and NSW are only behind by 10 and were within an inch of a try to bring the deficit back to 4. Remember a few years ago when Qld were behind with 10 minutes to go and lost a player to the sin bin, Qld put on 2 tries and won. If you're competitive, you're a chance and NSW were always a chance

The management at Rugby Australia has been woeful for two decades and has killed a great sport. This weekend the UK Union Premiership played in front of a packed Twickenham while the Challenge Cup took place across town at a half empty Wembley. Union is in insanely good health everywhere else but hopeless here. The NRL has built a better "product" under PvL. It's much better marketed and has across the board coverage. I remember only 5-10 years ago the stadiums were pretty embarrassingly empty at NRL games but PvL has given it a good shot in the arm.

100%. The crowds filling up the square in Toulouse a couple of weekends ago after they won the Champions Cup were insane. As strong as NRL is in Oz, there’s no way any team’s getting a reception like that after a GF win.

Mismanagement by Rugby Australia is a major cause but Union is struggling in a lot of places. In the UK the premiership final does great along with six nations but a number of historic clubs are struggling big time, they've had to sell part of the league to private equity and we lost the Wasps last year for good :( I do think the NRL is better set up for the new generation: faster paced game, more highlight plays, rules are simple etc...
@thewielloyd988
@thewielloyd988 19 сағат бұрын
@@jackhamilton5250 yeah I think the main thing is that the NRL has their marketing perfected, they get lots of public exposure out of their free to air broadcaster and they’ve got other revenue sources such as leagues clubs that act as a connector with their community. Quins is the only UK Union club that seems to have done a lot of work on alternative revenue. The NRL went through the same thing in the late 90s as the Prem is now, having to shutter teams that couldn’t support themselves financially. Union is plenty good to watch. Despite the loss of the Wasps - which was by all accounts badly run and moving their home base didn’t help - the Prem final got 82k on the weekend and the League final got 64k. There’s enough of a market for both versions of the game but the marketing for RA is MIA and Australian media salivate over laying the boot in for some reason.
