Before you even said it was the key with the symptoms you have when it runs on choke its not the key. If that key was sheered it would not even run. And especially when it has a pull start it would practically pull your arm off. Defiantly not the key.

Actually. A steering wheel puller with 3 bolts and nuts is all you need. It lines up perfectly with all three holes. Same pattern.

U take a plate bout 1/4 thick drill two holes in it (hence what those holes are for in pulley ) then put your socket in middle and toss two bolts threw those holes to your plate . U make a puller basically that’s what those 3 holes are for 🤣

I made my own puller whole deck took 10 mins lol

7:19 On the Metro 36, there should be an allen head set screw behind the pulley which is in video here. It will be hidden and hard to see. In such case, you may need to remove the four or six bolts/nuts holding the spindle under the cutting deck to tilt the whole assembly and see the location of the set screw if it is there. Even after removing the set screw, I couldn't remove the pulley, it was frozen to the spindle shaft. Even used a jaw gear puller and a homemade socket to hit it on top with a hammer. After breaking off part of the cast iron pulley wheel with the puller, I finally gave up and used an angle grinder to cut out enough of the pulley to drop it down past the cutting deck. Then ordered an entire new spindle assembly which comes with a pulley.

I don’t know if you’ll see this, but I’m working on the exact same motor. Needing to replace the main oil gasket. The unit is clean, but the bolts that hold the block to the frame deck really aren’t cooperating. Do you think I gab get to the gasket by removing the bolts (upside down ones) and lifting up the unit in the same direction as the flywheel? So worried about stripping the deck bolts - they are so tight and the tools I have aren’t giving me the best leverage. However, the upside down bolts are very friendly- almost too friendly as it makes me wonder if the damn thing just needed to be tightened down properly! 🙄. Appreciate your video - it certainly helped.❤

Thanks for the video. Mice or rats chewed my wires and I am down to removing the Flywheel. I'll try your idea. Is there a "Shear-Pin" that may have broke instead of the Key way?

I like your little homemade socket into a driver tool idea I thought I’d try my three jaw puller but I’ve got a second option now!!! I just replace the bearings and on those I actually always drill the housing and add a zerk and I pull the inside bearing seals or lips so I can grease my bearings… I hate sealed bearings that’s okay for homeowner but a pro mower should have a grease zerk… they are just cheap

I cut mine 12 inches from the filler neck bump out then made a 12 x 12 square drilled the corners with a step bit and used aviation snips to cut it out, the grinder would have been much easier but i did not trust it. Probably took about 15 minutes to cut access and about hour to change the pump. i couldn't find a motor craft or ford pump anywhere local for mine i had to use replacement sending unit from autozone.
