In a recession you may loose all your own money plus your margin money. ? Are we close to a recession? If Democrats continue Look for a great depression , banks are already failing, businesses are laying off thousands, eggs still $3 00 a dozen, gas over $3.50 a gal, HARRIS , BIDEN NOMICS HAVE DESTROYED OUR ECONOMY.

I bought a couple hundred shares of SVOL the day the VIX spiked, and I honestly wished I bought twice as much more...because a VIX spike like that isn't something we see regularly.

I utilize margin when we have huge corrections in the market to lower cost basis. Normally not more than 10-12% of my portfolio. 👍💰💰💰💰💰💰💰

What people also need to understand about certain stocks is that they are in asset classes specifically geared towards income rather than share price growth. So, for instance, comparing the return of VIG or VOO to UTG is inherently fallacious, because the latter is specifically designed to stay within a fixed price interval due to the finite issuance of shares, not to mention CEFs are largely composed of corporate bonds/debt, so the factors that determine if it's a quality investment are completely different. In short: Growth investors (even dividend growth) have allowed the previous bull run to convince them that any asset that doesn't appreciate in share price is inherently worthless. And that couldn't be the furthest from the truth.

5:35 Main have been great and I've held it for years. It also pays an extra special quaterly dividend that adds to the overall yeild and it also appreciates in price going up almost 25% over the last year and 10-15% over the last 5 years.

"Unusually high yield" must be understood in relation to the same company's prior yield. All those points on that page are obviously specific to an individual company.

I have Main Street and Realty Income in my portfolio. Love them both and will continue to add them. I think with rates so high they were being held back a bit compared to other sectors. With rates expected to drop all REITs should see a bump in price as demand goes up for them

I've been in touch with a financial analyst ever since I started investing. Knowing today's culture The challenge is knowing when to purchase or sell when investing in trending stocks, which is pretty simple. On my portfolio, which has grown over $900k in a little over a year, my adviser chooses entry and exit orders

which bottom; the short term bottom or the ultimate bottom? ha....bear markets have big rallies......you are right though....thats what Warren Buffett did in 1969; he pulled 100% out of stocks and waited 5 years until 1974 to go back in. Not many people have the patience to wait for the ultimate bottom.

It’s a tricky one of time in the market vs timing the market. However it’s not necessarily a case of one or the other. Having a percentage of cash for opportunities is probably a good idea!

I didn't start out as a dividend investor, fortunately my 401K was in growth mostly and even though I had a modest salary for most of my life I just kept my mitts off of the retirement account. Now I rolled it into an IRA and bought dividend income stocks. I wasn't able to compound dividends over the course of decades, I just got here by market growth. Now I'm making $62K per year on $600K

I don't invest with the thought of whether something is hi-yld/hi-div growth. I just buy quality companies and ETFs and do so on the individual merits of what I am buying. I am nearly 58. Your portfolio yields more than mine and admittedly has a higher div/grth rate. Most of my dividends come from my Roth IRAs. My taxable accounts are slowly catching up to dividends produced from my IRAs while my IRA dividends are also increasing annually.

If one is in their 40s and just started investing (have 401k from work). Should they just focus on growth etf since it will be too late for them to see real benefits with dividends? I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here
@larrydimon7811
@larrydimon7811 15 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say early 40's is 'too late' for anything related to investing. If you have at least 20 years left to put money into the market then I think growth is a nice way to lean. I think value/dividends is good to have at any age in any market. I run a mix & my portfolio just surpassed the 1m milestone. The best part is I still enjoy my life while I do this. Travel, and only buy things I love. It's often wise to get with a pro F.A for the best investment style considering your situation and circumstances. I did, and I'll stand by that decision.
