He sings fine and has a beautiful voice. However this is far from being the ideal voice for this repertoire.

Oi Verdi! Not shy to open with three large dramatic thunders to get our attention. And not shy to expect the soprana to ignite the stage with bravura! And only then to venture into softer humbler tones, but still expecting her to show off her higher and lower register. And always climaxing at the end either with a high note on full voice and here - a pianissimo with emphatic strength. The man must have been emotionally drained after a show! Not to mention the poor singers! Luv it!

Opera will never be boring! So interesting to hear how differently singers have approached the same aria over decades. So good to have Renata Scotto in the limelight again. A well deserved applause!!!

Beautiful Lied, composed by F. Schubert in 1815, sets the music for the poem by J.W. von Goethe. The work requires excellent vocal skill from the performer, who must change voices to represent the four characters in the story: the narrator, the father, the son, and the King of the Elves. Klaus Mertens doing it is fascinating. Applause also for the pianist. Thank you. Love it.

_"She was a great actress and because of her voice she revived a whole repertoire of bel canto operas such as Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Anna Bolena, each full of songs that it had been thought were too difficult"_ What we just heard is unbelievably beautiful, not to speak of the singer's voice, technique, sensibility etc. But we must realize that without Callas, we may have been unaware of this and a couple of other operas. Her contribution to the opera is immense! Thank you so much.

Konya is my second favorite Lohengrin after Melchior. He was a wonderful, Italianate tenor who brought a unique and rare vocal beauty to Wagner. And I have to add that the is one of the greatest overall performances of Lohengrin - singing, conducting - the totality is magnificent.

Beautiful voice. I will always be a Gundula Janowitz fan. The first Schubert Lieder recital I ever listened to as a young man, was Janowitz in the State Opera in Pretoria in 1986 (I think). Full house. All dressed up in those proper years. All in full anticipation. And she carried her voice in that large interior clear and with precise diction as far as the last back seats. Magic. Pure magic.
