Dude, Twist of Cain is (imho) one of the greatest guitar riffs ever. All killer, no filler. That 1 song is responsible for me learning to play guitar, as well as my 4 plus decades love for metal.

I don't like the dry AC/DC like production on the Danzig solo stuff at all. It's among the few bands from my youth that I definitely grew out of. Samhain and Misfits on the other hand I love as much as ever. IMO Rick Rubin ruined a much more interesting musical project in Samhain.
@StGlaciers
@StGlaciers 3 ай бұрын
Know what you mean, I do think Danzig I is a classic. The unpolished sound of Samhain and Misfits definitely have a timeless unique sound. My personal favourite out of all Glen’s catalog is November & Initium. There’s just something about those albums that are truly unique and an energy captured unlike anything I’ve heard elsewhere. Having said that, Rick definitely has a tendency to reduce. He did that with the Peppers, The Cult & Bestie Boys … he seems to have a penchant for minimalism.

@@StGlaciers Agree. Love all the Samhain releases. It all has such a interesting atmosphere and vibe. Not sure if you've ever heard the remastered versions from the Samhain boxset but in my opinion they are the best versions hands down. I was blown away when I heard them after listening to my cassettes that I've had since 1991.

Chuck used Pro Mark DC-10 sticks. They were usually used by the snare guys on drum lines, but very heavy and hard to use in rock. I used them for practice, then switched to smaller, lighter sticks for performance. Chuck used them all the time from what I've heard. Big thick shaft with no bead, just kinda tapers off on the top half.

Yeah, but have you ever heard the song Photograph, by Adrenaline? Saw the original Danzig line up twice. Chuck is a force of nature. One of the shows was absolutely perfect, the second one not so much (Glenn's voice was shot that night, it happens)>

John has aged incredibly well, especially contrasted against Glenn who definitely hasn't. He also always seemed like a super genuine really nice dude, a big smile in his interviews and clear passion for what he was doing and the art they were making. I'm sure Glenn was a pain in the ass to work with even on the best of days, but John clearly took it all in his stride and we got three incredible albums and another pretty good one out of that collab. Total legend.

Finally some Danzig pop culture new info. I think it's fascinating how Rubins other projects must of crossed paths with Danzig's original line up back in the day. Danzig in 93 and Beasties in 95 are the 2 best shows I've seen.

On the production sound of the first record - > I think it's exactly why this album doesn't sound like it came out in '88. It's raw, real, and authentic sounding. It sounds modern now, even after 35 years. Truly a timeless recording.

Imagine a classic Danzig line up reunion? I like/ love most of Danzigs musical contributions over the decades, but the early albums with John, Chuck and Eerie were outstanding. They were real. Playing hard hitting back beat music. Kerry King was paid 200$ to do the guitar on "No sleep till Brooklyn". He's in the video, check it out. I never heard he played on "Fight for your right".

Wow, I was there, that was my very first concert! Great great show. I talked to John about it, he said he sat and watched the opening bands play from the top seats to get an idea of the sound in that arena. Apparently it is notorious for having bad acoustics.

@@StGlaciersthat tour was the first time I saw Danzig. They were so fkn tight and powerful, just unparalleled as live bands go. I got to meet the guys individually earlier in the day before and after soundcheck. Super nice and appreciative of their fans. Eerie was especially chill about hanging out and answering my overexcited 16 year old questions. One of my best memories of the bands I was (and still am) really into.
