for atpl students: Smoke HOOD (PBE) --> whole HEAD --> little chemical generator --> Continuous flow Smoke MASK --> whole FACE --> oxygen regulator (depends on the selector position)

To clarify for the Essex PBE (Smoke Hood), we use compressed aviator grade oxygen / C02 scrubbers and not a chemical generator on our units.

Rose In the Garden me too! I was unsure about my hair and emailed one of the trainers and they said as long as you can get the PBE on over your head your hair isn’t too big. So... here I am looking up what the heck a PBE is lol

270º for viewing angle visibility. The PBE has a thermal resistance of Radiant Heat - 1.0 BTU/SQ. FT. for up to 60 seconds, Dripping Thermoplastic to 390°F, and Transient Flame of 1800°F for 5 seconds. We get a good 45 minutes out of a cylinder here in Sussex, what time do you get in the US?

Kind of a late reply lol, but my dept and many others use the Scott 45, but most air packs are about the same when it comes to duration of air. It has has 4500psi and it lasts about 10-15 minutes in working conditions, maybe less or more depending how you breathe. If you were standing up and relaxed with a normal heart rate it would last about 45 minutes haha. There are other bottles that last a little while longer while working though.
