Have you considered the Emerald Amicus? It’s basically a mini 12 String minus the octave strings. Kind of like a cross between a Mandolin/Autoharp in sound. Nice wide neck too. Amazing Guitar. I also have a Emerald Doubleneck 6/12 Acoustic. The only downside is that I need to mute the neck that I am not playing with a terry cloth hair band to keep it from sympathetically ringing.

Thank you for entertaining me this evening. I loved seeing your loving relationship beaming though while you were making music :) We all strive to achieve what you have. As a guitar player, I loved you using the X30 Jim. Again, thank you as you touched something in me this evening when I really needed it.

If you reach in through the hole in my guitar there is a piece of wood that is falling down inside of the guitar. It is right next to the hole towards the bridge side. It vibrates a lot when you play specifically when you rest your hand for palm mute etc. I was going to just squirt some glue in there and clamp it back to the inside of the body. Do you think this will be okay or will I f*** it up I love this guitar

Hi Joe - As described you're likely to screw things up. Step one is get a light and mirror inside the guitar to see what braces are loose. It could just be the small one near the soundhole or many more. Alvarez guitars don't just fall apart so I'd want to figure out what may have caused that brace to come loose. As for glue in order of preference - titebond liquid hide glue, fish glue, titebond wood glue. DO NOT use super glue or Gorilla Glue. I'd take it to someone qualified to troubleshoot that loose brace.

Does the partial capo need to be specifically for a 12-string guitar? Maybe not, as I'm struggling to find one
@JimKozel
@JimKozel 3 ай бұрын
Most partial capos will work on a 12-string provided the spring is strong enough. Placement is a bit more important because you're capoing 3 strings + the octave strings. Try a Kyser partial capo. I use either a Kyser or my preferred capo a G7th brand partial capo.

How do you solve wire rattles ? The sound hole is too small for hand to reach the wires…
@JimKozel
@JimKozel 8 ай бұрын
When dealing with small sound holes, a variety of hemostats are useful for positioning cable clamps to the back of the instrument. Search for "hemostat" on Amazon. They will go where your hand cannot,

Great video. I had the exact same issue with an Alvarez bridge for the same reason. It had warped and lifted behind the bridge pins. I had local luthier remove it and he repaired it exactly the same way. I was a bit concerned that to flatten it out, he had to sand the base pretty significantly, but worked out great. Appears to still have enough strength. Thanks.

Did you need to do anything to the wires to keep them from moving around inside?
@JimKozel
@JimKozel 8 ай бұрын
In this particular case, turning the endpin jack just enough to "brace" the wires against the back of the uke was sufficient. I typically use a cable anchor stuck to the back of the uke with a hemostat.

Great job.. especially using all the same string, so many comparison videos just use different guitars using most likely different strings, strings can make the most notable tone difference, really more so than anything else short of comparing a parlor to a jumbo..very well done!

I have 1964 LG1 #235748. Originally the plastic bridge pulled up in the back end, warping the top. Was replaced by a bridge like yours (are they a standard bridge?). Also replaced the bridge plate with a koa one. More beat up than yours as leaving out in freezing weather caused the top and sides to crinkle, great patina. Also, no sticker under the sound hole, like mine.

I think of using European Beech wood 3mm! Because I have it here in my flat! And it is difficult to break! But European Beech is light in coulor! Nearly white! It looks like you use mahogany? I guy I knew used icecream pins! Icecream pinns looks like European Beech! I have also collected some icecream pins! I am not neccessarilly talking about a butterfly shape with European Beech! a darker wood for this type of repairing looks more professional! Ebony breaks easily! what about rosewood?

@BurninSven1
@BurninSven1 Жыл бұрын
I have done a repair like that years ago but now I am certain that routing on the backside and put in two wooden strips or what ever you guys call them preferably high quality plywood is way stronger. Why cause it is not round pieces and deeper/wider than those rods so it can withstand forces coming from pretty much any direction. It sure is way easier to do it like this though and if it holds up go for it.
@JimKozel
@JimKozel Жыл бұрын
There's a number of decent ways to do a vertical headstock break. This approach held up fine. It's one of a number that can work. The routed slots approach with splines is also a solid way to do the repair although unsightly unless a refinish is added to the cost of the repair. Installing rods is similar to putting pins into a broken bone to reinforce the break.

I can't even tell you how disappointed I am in the new Gibson acoustics. They are frail and the wood is so young, cheap and weak, that a heated argument will make the top bow and the saddle lean forward. One single bump and the thin balsa wood top or sides just snap or bow. Bracing detaches due to excessive expansion and contraction cycles. At least the warranty work responded in two cases by Gibson. Tip: If you buy a Gibson acoustic, pay the extra for extended replacement warranty. And if you want to use a J-45 for commercial work, get an older one, maybe like 5 years old, to be sure it's acclimated.

Was there a reason that you didn't try a Mastery Bridge?
@JimKozel
@JimKozel Жыл бұрын
While the Mastery Bridge is certainly a fine piece, it was unnecessary. Think of the Fender Jazzmaster as a solid body arch top. Now the way it's built makes more sense. A fair amount of break angle is needed at the bridge to prevent strings slipping off the saddles. Installing a thin wedge shim in the neck pocket will cant the neck back just enough to create sufficient break angle.
@nelsonhik
@nelsonhik Жыл бұрын
@@JimKozel Thanks. I have a MIM - 2012 - JazzMaster Classic Player with the Tune-o-matic type bridge. The strings definitely don't slip out, but I have to wonder why the Fender folk would have put a bridge on a guitar that doesn't match the neck radius. I am tempted to put on the Mastery, but it's pricey!
