I was fortunate enough to see Shelley Hirsch perform while on my first solo trip to NYC. This was not too long after 9/11 actually, and she appeared with a number of other musicians (Mark Ribot was one) at the now-defunct Tonic music venue. I had no idea who she was at the time, but I've tried to keep her on my radar ever since. Thanks for this interview.

Radio Eclectus! i am Australian and its a surprise to see a southern hemisphere parrot used for the other side of the world radio! Great interview. I first heard of Joan Tower when Marin A dis Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman . Have been listening to Towers other works so this interview about the influences on her work is very enlightening . was especially intrigued by the South American connection . Thankyou . Fascinating

Thanks Gene, I'll be playing a couple different performances of Cartridge Music tomorrow (September 5, 2019) on Radio Eclectus (www.HollowEarthRadio.org) at 9pm Pacific Time. The origin of our modern traditions of both live electronic music and noise music!

@@Schell77 Thanks Michael, I'm curating a Cage "Musicircus" in the Tweed Museum of Art here on campus at University of Minnesota Duluth. Almost 400 minutes of music over a 90 minute timeline. I wanted to brush up on a few pieces I haven't performed and your video was super helpful with interpreting this piece. Thanks again!

Very interesting explanation, especially liked the view and explanation of the score. Would really like to see other similar videos about other early electronic works. Thank you for making this.

This stuff is so interesting to me, just got in to Cage and pre 70s electro and I know it's a rabbit hole I want to fall in to.
