No. This is not for that. These have USB connectors and will not plug into the ethernet port of a router. There are specific devices that push power onto Ethernet cables that you might want to look into. It is called PoE or Power over Ethernet. Specific PoE devices will push power onto Ethernet cables and PoE compatible devices can be powered through them.

Thank you for commenting. We're happy you enjoyed the video. We do put a lot of effort in our videos. Please share it with anyone else that would enjoy it too. For some vehicle makes the OBDLink MX+ may be able to access special settings. It is best to ask the OBDLink team regarding your specific make and model to be sure. Usually, you will have to use a 3rd party app with these features, that specializes in your make and model vehicle. I provided some resources as well in the video description where you can get started in your search for information on this. Hope that helps.

Full respect but it's not preventing vehicle from theft. Hard pull and all obd port will just drop. Then you need connect to let's say correct wires and of you go. Secondary various vehicle trims can be removed just by pulling them off exposing wires where you can easily access can high, can low.... Etc.

I have the slimmest wallet. None. You said you can survive with fewer cards on you. The number you need is one or zero. At that point, why contain it. Just leave card you want to be reasonably close but don't actually use every day in your car. Your car is always with you or five minutes away. "How do I get my specific card out of this thing?" If you are smart it is just the one card. You are still carrying worthless crap with you.

Why is it that some people feel the need to force their opinions on others? You do realize that not everyone lives the life you do or has the same requirements or interests in life as you, right? This topic is not equivalent to a world level importance like hunger or war. It's not even about ethics, morals or life and death... it's a personal choice. So why the harsh criticism and comments as if you have the ultimate answer and there is no other way about it and everyone must have a life like yours? You only need one card. That's perfectly fine. You have your needs and you fullfilled it. Other people have different requirements and they fullfill those needs. No one is asking anyone that only needs one card to "contain it" in a wallet. Why are you watching a video about a slim wallet when you clearly don't need a wallet and seem to hate wallets? Not everyone has a car so to assume that those people could just leave it in their car is not possible. What you mentioned also doesn't make sense. You say you only need one card. It sounds like you are referring to a payment card of some sort since you mentioned "Just leave card you want to be reasonably close but don't actually use every day in your car. Your car is always with you or five minutes away". So I suppose your suggestion is to drive the car without bringing your driver's license with you since you only have your one payment card with you... because you should only have "one or zero cards". Other cards people may want to bring include: * their health insurance card * second credit card in case the first is only accepted at some locations (e.g. Costco Canada only accepts Mastercard). Also, not every retailer takes smart payments so you can't always pay with your phone. * a debit card (to pay in cash since some places only accept cash or debit OR to be able to withdraw cash) * Driver's license to be able to drive legally * Some countries are still cash based, so a wallet is used to carry cash as well * Access cards (RFID, etc...) * Membership cards * Bus pass * Rewards/Points/Stamp cards So maybe you don't have a car, have the slimest wallet and don't need any cards, have an opinion and are the ultimate minimalist. Perfectly fine. Nobody truly cares. Do what you need for your needs. Not everyone lives in the same city or country or has or wants the same lifestyle as you.

I'm getting this thing called the Thunderbox (made by HealTech) for my just-bought Honda CB500X bike. I'll be able to connect all kinds of devices to it instead of directly to the battery. Have you heard of anything like this for a truck/car? Thanks for the very helpful video.
@FrakkingCreations
@FrakkingCreations 17 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment and info on the Thunderbox. I have been trying to find such a device for a truck/car. I would think that the Thunderbox should work for a truck/car too if it works on 12V systems. Interestingly, I have found a similar device for motorcycles that I am going to install on a vehicle. I am currently editing the video showing how I am installing it using fuse taps. This should be published in the next week or so. The device is the QuadLock 12V to USB smart adapter. The difference between this and the Thunderbox is that this only provides a USB port for USB powered devices. It also has a battery protection feature that allows it to stay on even when the vehicle is turned off. It has 3 modes of operation. On, Auto and Off. If the device is connected directly to the battery or always on fuse slot, it will provide power all the time when in On mode. In Auto mode, it will continue to provide power even when the vehicle is off but will protect the battery when the voltage drops to 12.5 V. At that time it will power down. and Off mode is always off.

@@FrakkingCreations yeah, I need to dive in and learn more about this stuff, I’m totally new to it. I don’t know if you’ve looked at the HealTech site yet, but they make an add-on to the thunderbox that will do, I believe, the same thing as the QuadLock adapter. It’s 25 bucks. The thunderbox itself is either $70 or $90, depending on the number of connections (four or eight). For anyone thinking of getting it, they have two distributors in the United States, but both seem to be out of stock, so you’d need to order directly from the EU (Hungary) for now. I am in no big hurry, so I may wait (it’s an extra 25 bucks in shipping from overseas). If I find out that this will work for a car as well (I don’t see why it wouldn’t) I’ll leave that info in this thread. Thanks again for your great video.

@FrakkingCreations
@FrakkingCreations 17 күн бұрын
There are several different models of this lock from ones for specific makes of vehicles to 2 universal ones. Each one is supposed to have different ways to secure the lock. The specific model ones like the one I show in the video have unique keys. I don't remember off hand how many key combinations for this one. For the universal models, the Universal OBDsaver uses security screws with about 300 different variants to secure the OBD Lock. For the Universal Plus OBDSaver, it has about 650 different key combinations. What might also be important is how well they randomize the orders so that different keys are sent out for the orders so that different key combinations are sent out. Hope this helps.

It has to be taken into context. If you compare to the recommended way that is typically suggested for replacing the door checks, you will be required to remove the door panel and additional parts. This typically takes a lot of time to disassemble and then reassemble. Also, some vehicles don't have access to the door check through a speaker hole and thus you would have to do it this way. If you ask for a quote to get this repair done, some shops will actually quote the panel removal method which will cost you a lot in labor charges. Doing it the way I show in the video is the fastest and easiest way to do it.

FLIR night vision or any other models featuring RCA output, CVBS video signal and resolution of 720x576 or less should work. Only thing I can think of at this time is an aftermarket lockable gas cap. You would have to find one that will fit your vehicle. I'm not sure how secure they are but at least it adds another layer to the stock fuel filler door (hopefully also lockable). There's also some thieves that drill a small hole under the fuel tank to steal gas so I don't know of a way to prevent that.

How about using an $80 brake pedal lock? Thieves can still get in the car and start it, but they can't drive it away. They can't even saw off the brake pedal lock. Simple solution and probably the most sensible.
@FrakkingCreations
@FrakkingCreations 23 күн бұрын
That can work too. The brake pedal is a strong piece of metal that is very hard to saw. As with most other locks, there will be strengths and weaknesses and thieves will usually attack the weakest link. For steering locks, this is usually the steering wheel and other times it is the lock mechanism. For the Pedal lock, as long as the metal shaft is strong and the lock mechanism is good, it should hold off the thieve for a little bit. Usually lock mechanisms can be drilled out too or even picked. It will depend on the model of brake lock and how well the manufacturer implements it.

Good catch. I think I remember seeing that when reviewing the video, sometime after it was published. As long as the positive pole of the battery is not ALSO touching any part of the vehicle it won't be a big issue. But, yes, it's best that the negative cable doesn't connect with the negative pole of the battery at any time while changing the battery, and before purposely connecting the negative terminal. I have seen some people wrap the negative cable terminal with cloth so that this will not accidentally happen.

Fuse taps, wire locks and crimp type joiners, fall into the category of fire starters. The wire locks and crimp joiners are purely mechanical and will fail over time. Twisting then solder and heat shrink is the proper way to splice cables. The issue with fuse taps especially is that the orientation is important, which you cover, but don't explain the consequence of not orienting properly - smoke and fire. Also being mechanically retained, they will work loose and you also run the risk of back-feeding +ve volts into other circuits, which a fuse won't protect, and the consequences will range from a a flat battery, to intermittent fault codes, to damaging those other circuits. Then you have the test light - only ever use these for very basic voltage checking - probe the wrong circuit accidently or use it incorrectly, you can destroy electronics and even deploy airbags and seat belt tensioners - dangerous. A digital multi-meter is a better option for this and can be had for not a lot more money. Suffice to say, and not mentioned here, is that probing around an EV with a cheap 12v test light, where 400v+ is present and the batteries can supply 1,500 amps of instantaneous current (250amp is required to weld metal). Potential for serious injury here.
@FergalToohey
@FergalToohey 27 күн бұрын
Most splice connections in cars are crimped rather than soldered by OEM. Crimps are fine provided the right type are used, as in this video.
@FrakkingCreations
@FrakkingCreations 26 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your input. Are you a professional installer? For the fuse tap section, I did mention that the fuses won't protect the circuit properly as designed if the fuse taps are oriented incorrectly. I am not so convinced that if oriented improperly, there would by default be smoke and fire, just like that. When used incorrectly, the power draw from both circuits would go through the first/bottom fuse. If the current exceeds the rating of the fuse, it should blow as designed to prevent a fire. It is just that you are more likely to blow the first/bottom fuse in such a scenario because you are likely getting closer to the rating of the fuse with both circuits pulling from it. For the test light, I only use it to probe the fuses and the fuse slot terminals. I am not using it to probe around at anything else and would not recommend doing that. I could see how probing around randomly elsewhere could cause problems as you mentioned, but I do have a question for you. If a test light could destroy electronics and potentially deploy airbags, why wouldn't a multimeter be capable of causing this too when probing around the wrong circuits? In my video, I am only working on a typical 12V ICE (Internal combustion engine) vehicle and am not saying this will work for EV vehicles. I haven't worked on an EV vehicle so I cannot say anything on that front.

@FrakkingCreations 29 күн бұрын
Is it? A roadside emergency kit will be different for everyone. As with most things in life, everyone will have different requirements and needs. Not everyone has the same requirements as you might based on where you drive. Not everyone lives their lives like you or me. An roadside emergency is … an emergency, and you won't be able to predict what kind of emergency. But you can be prepared based on what you do and where you drive. It's always up to the individual to decide what they need based on their situation and circumstances. I just provided a list of items that can be useful in a roadside emergency kit. A person driving short distances only within the city will not need much in their kit. People are around, there's cell coverage, friends and family are relatively close enough to help, it's easy to get food, water and shelter. But a person driving in rural areas where not many people pass by and in winter conditions will need more. Getting stranded in these conditions can mean the difference between life and death. So yes, the items required for this kit will look a little like a camping kit. There is no one size fits all here.
