@Diedevanabs4 жыл бұрын

getting this boat for my son.i have a few hobby grade rc 4x4 buggies.will try a 550 15turn motor with 3800 battery and 60 amp esc.i like it to go a little faster,not too much that it turns over and sinks.
@Diedevanabs5 жыл бұрын
I think a 550 might be a bit too heavy and probably too poweful, my choice for a single motor setup would be a 380 or 400 type. It's a bit tight in the hull. But by all means, go for it!

Mvg. Bram
@Diedevanabs6 жыл бұрын
Succes!
@bramkerkhoff80106 жыл бұрын
Mvg. Bram
@Diedevanabs6 жыл бұрын

Hello, awesome work. Since I have very limited knowledge in conversions, I would really beg for your help to make my boat like yours. The problem is: 1. How to mount the motors. Please let me know the parts used. 2. Which longer shaft to buy to make it come 8cm from the back of the boat. Thanks, Kaushal.
@Diedevanabs6 жыл бұрын
Kaushal Kakaria hi I can't really help you on that, since I used the original shafts and homemade aluminium motor mounts for the outrunner motors. If I were to do it again I would probably use 27mm dia inrunners so I could use the original mounts, or use bespoke items to build it properly.

@Diedevanabs7 жыл бұрын

Hi, thank you for sharing this info At the end of the video you install the firmware. Where can I download it? How did you install the firmware? This was not clear in you video, can you help me?
@Diedevanabs7 жыл бұрын
Hi, the firmware can be downloaded from the Reprapworld.com site (reprapworld.com/products/beagle_3d_printer/beagle_standard_delta_reprap_3d_printer/) which is sort-of-preconfigured for the Beagle (you'll need to modify the settings according to your own printer) or alternatively you can probably also use the stock Marlin firmware which you can download from the Marlin website. Firmware installation and modification is done through the Arduino software, which is also free to download. I think you can use the default latest build but be sure to check if you don't need one of the legacy builds of the Arduino software.

Thanks for your help. I believe you used this motor sk3-2822-1090. I couldn't find 1100 kw( only 1090) I would appreciate if you could tell me what shaft ( Graupner) you used, so I can look for a similar one In the local hobby shop, not having yet the engines. Thanks a lot, I have none experience with boats. I will start working and I hope i will be able to share a video in a couple of months.

Hi Pablo, I used the "D2822/17 Brushless Outrunner 1100kv" (www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=18967) motors. The shafts from Graupner were 4mm shaft / 6mm tube, 225mm shaft length I believe: www.graupner.de/de/products/b5d08e81-ce25-4ebd-9370-6193af870648/411/product.aspx I have the original shafts still, so I'll try to check the length for you. My brushless motors are more in the front of the boat, over the forward part of the original battery compartment. My batteries sit between the shafts now, more to the rear.
@pablomoche8 жыл бұрын
does it have a rudder ? mine only has two motors, I am not sure what setup to use in order to have full forward, full left or right, and perhaps also reverse. I will appreciatte any hints.
@Diedevanabs8 жыл бұрын
Hi Pablo, The original tug indeed only has two motors. I installed rudders on mine (becker rudders actually, while I was at it) but that requires extensive hacking since you cannot easily split the hull and deck. You can set up your boat to use independent motor steering ("Tank Steering") which would probably also work reasonably well. The easiest way is to use a 4ch transmitter and directly control the motors with the two vertical stick movements, however that requires getting used to tank steering on the controls. If you don't need proportional control but just the standard all-or-nothing control this ship originally came with, you could maybe get away with 2ch control, two servos and four switches. Do the switches such that one pair of switches is controlled by one servo and regulates fwd/rev movement, and the second servo and switches to switch OFF the inside-turn-motor. While this is very bang-bang control, it should work if built and set-up correctly.
@pablomoche8 жыл бұрын
Hi Diede, thanks, I like the idea of the switches, I've never done it before, but I'll give it a thought . I don't know if those are special switches, or any" button" type switch, that can be "pressed"with a servo. servo No. 1 : controls Fwd- Rev or none of both motors. servo No. 2 : puts off inside turn motor. On the other hand, if I go for the technological way, I should buy two ESCs, and modify the Radio so as to have to similar behaving sticks right and left ( It would feel very uncomfortable to have a springed stick, and a free stick)
@Diedevanabs8 жыл бұрын
Hi Pablo, I think what you need is two NO (Normally Open) dual pole Momentary Push Buttons with a high enough amp rating for the fwd/rev control, and two more NC (Normally Closed) single pole Momentary Push Buttons for the directional control. I think that should do the trick. However I am not keen on that kind of solution, control-wise. It is very crude whereas you'd want a tugboat to be able to maneouvre precisely and slowly. I am not sure what kind of transmitter you have but the HK-T6A trannies I use can be modified pretty easily so that shouldn't be much of an issue. You could of course also go for a hybrid solution: use a ESC for fwd/rev control, and steer using the servo/button method...

Dear Diede, I have the exact same old boat Libeccio, and tried to upgrade it some years ago without success. Now I have a more serious idea of how to do it, and was wondering what motors to use. Your information is very useful. I would appreciate very much if you could tell me what speed controller you used and if there is any way to replace the drive system Graupner ( you mentioned) for something I could by at Hobbyking? Thanks a lot . Paul [email protected]
@Diedevanabs10 жыл бұрын
Hi Pablo, I haven't seen a suitable set of propshafts on Hobbyking lately, they mostly (only?) seem to sell propshafts and tubes for speedboats - flex shafts, mostly. My advise would be to visit a local store that sells boat stuff and check what they can do for you. Where I live, Robbe shafts seem to be readily available or if you are willing to spend a little more for a high quality shaft, Raboesch would be the choice. Graupner is hard to get nowadays, they have been bankrupt and made a restart, but their products line has been thinned very badly. I hope you will get your Libeccio right again, it is a nice boat if tweaked and dressed properly! Please upload a movie once you have it going agian.
@Diedevanabs10 жыл бұрын
Oh, I used the "Turnigy TrackStar 25A 1/18th Scale Brushless Car ESC" (www hobbyking com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=14630) from Hobbyking, a very small and versatile ESC. Do order the programming card together with it, it will ease the programming a lot! I used a combination of transmitter-beep-programming and using the programming card; some options can only be set with one of both methods.

Got the same boat and going to convert it the same way. Im just wondering if you changed the prop or is it stock?
@Diedevanabs11 жыл бұрын
Hi Leeson, I am not going to convert your boat. First of all, my conversion is not the recommended way to go. Second, I am not a professional boat builder. Third, I don't have nearly enough time for all of my own ships, let alone other peoples boats. Fourth, I am living in The Netherlands and I think you are somewhere in the States. Shipping alone will be so much more than buying a decent boat locally... If you want to convert your boat, do it yourself. That's much more fun, too, anyways.

I've seen you comment on other videos the same thing. It's not hard to do yourself. That's like a whole part of the hobby. If you were to pay someone else to do it on top of components you may as well by a brand new traxxas or something.

@Diedevanabs11 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I used ADS300L outrunners and 30A ESC's from Hobbyking. BUT I have to advise you if you contemplate a conversion; don't go my route as speed will disappoint (mine is not that fast), which is mainly because the props are too close to the rear of the boat and the plastic props are not quite able to cope with the power. Instead, use longer shafts (needs to protrude about 8cm behind the rear of the boat) and decent speedprops, or even convert to single shaft and place the rudder off-centre.

@BaconRobot4 Yes, it is the 7287 Police Boat from LEGO, although modified to create enough room for the motors and RC gear. I had to cut up the deck part and partially fill/rebuild it with LEGO plates to get enough height inside, and the hull and deck are now glued together to make it somewhat watertight.
