No Annie Clark? (St. Vincent) Surprised not to see her on the list. Personally, I'd have to say Ty Segall has been a player whose style most spoke to me these last few years. Grimy garage sounds and Godlike use of if feedback wails 😉
@TimTrutone29 күн бұрын
@richardashton6189 I thought about St. Vincent!! I went Samantha Fish instead. Ty Segall is a good choice, too. He gets a lot of airplay on college radio around here. I'd pick Kurt Vile over Ty, though!

I wrote all the music. My friend and old band mate Chelsea wrote the lyrics and vocal arrangement.

I just finished reading trouble boys. I had the misconception that Nirvana was heavily influenced by the Mats for most of my life. Interesting to find out not only was that not the case but there was a bit of a rivalry there. Another interesting grunge connection from the passage you read from is that Lenny Waronker is the Father of That Dog front woman Anna Waronker. I'm curious if she was influenced by the Mats at all. Cool content on your channel!

I always wondered about the replacements influence on Cobain! he was probably much more into Husker du! even though you never hear him talk about them either.

Dave Grohl’s intro riff for “learn to fly” is very close to a riff Kurt Cobain plays near the end of the guitar solo for “Pennyroyal tea” and I’ve never seen anyone acknowledge it before. Might be one of the only Foo Fighters riffs closely resembling a Nirvana riff and would be interesting for someone to look into.
@TimTrutone6 ай бұрын
I have a song called Hit Record that has an intro that kind of resembles Learn To Fly. It wasn't intentional and I don't really play it anymore for that reason and some others. You can hear it in my Live In Charlotte video. The songs are timestamped.

The "only song"? Have you not heard Killing Joke song "Eighties"? The guitar riff ended up as Nirvana's "Come as you Are"
@TimTrutone6 ай бұрын
Foo Fighters did not rip off Eighties. Read the title. I will be doing a video on Come As You Are as well at some point. The riff in question is not just a KJ riff. There are other bands who used it. Stay tuned.

@@TimTrutoneyeah there’s a damned song from their 81 album I believe that sounds just like the eighties riff. It’s just a commonly used punk riff
@johnmichaelson91736 ай бұрын
@@TimTrutone I didn't mention the Foo Fighters. I referenced KJ & Nirvana. I've seen both Jaz & Geordie from KJ say Nirvana ripped the riff off.

@@johnmichaelson9173 Killing Joke are a joke indeed if they are genuinely accusing a band of "ripping off" a riff that is a) not the same, just tonally real similar, and b) sounds like that same kinda riff in a dozen other songs from well before their own. C) it's a neat little twanger, but I would be embarrassed to accuse someone of ripping off (which they didn't do because it's not the same) that mindless sound check fidget disguised as a riff.

I saw Rancid in Olympia and shared a cigarette withTim! It was the Yo Yo a Go Go festival in 1994. I saw bands like Sky Cries mary, Sage, and Seaweed(Visualize Tacoma) there at the Capitol Theatre over the years. Most of my show going was on the Eastside of Seattle out at like the Old Firehouse in Redmond becaues I grew up in the Snoqualmie Valley. Plenty of Modest Mouse, Ten-O-Seven, Undertow, Jawbreaker, Murder City Devils, and Sunny Day Real Estate shows.
