From checking around, I found that John Williams decided that Lisbeth Scott should sing open vowels, not lyrics, to produce an emotional result reflecting the film's themes.

This is why the federation should have never scrapped their plans to make a fleet of Defiant class vessels instead of the idiotic cruise-liners -in-space that they kept making. Yeah yeah the borg threat wasn't as present but still.

I don’t understand how the gem hedar ship got close enough to ram the Odyssey when their weapons weren’t off line . The dialogue only states their communication array was hit, not that the weapons were offline.

I remember this, the Jem'Hadar were still effectively an unknown as a force at the time so Starfleet sent in the Odyssey to backup DS9's Runabouts to complete the mission. The Dominion ships weapons were able to penetrate the Odyssey's shields so the transferred power to weapons. Then the Jem'Hadar made a Suicide attack to show just how far they were willing to go, the catastrophic damage caused by the attack first wrecking and then utterly destroying the Odyssey when it hit. That was when it hit everyone from the Runabout crews all the way up to Starfleet Command. The Jem'Hadar and the Dominion were a VERY serious threat. Mind, I still find it funny all these years later when the Dominion launch a full-scale attack on DS9 when they set out to mine the Wormhole that Weyoun cannot understand how the stations shields are holding up against the Dominion's weapons. Gul Dukat just replies he's learnt never to underestimate the DS9 crew...

I honestly don't know which ship destruction hurt the most. Losing the original NCC 1701, (No bloody A, B, C, OR D), watching Enterprise D get destroyed, or when the Defiant was lost. But this one, might actually have a place in top 5 most crushing Star Trek destructions.

Odyssey gets destroyed Picard: That would never happen to the Enterprise. Guian: What about the time Enterprise was destroyed saving the Enterprise-C? Picard: Doesn't count alternative timeline Riker: What about the time the Enterprise was destroyed over and over again? Picard: Still doesn't count, time loop. Data: Or when an Enterprise from a universe overrun by the Borg? Picard: Doesn't count as it was not our ship plus Will was in command, not me. Worf: Or the time the ship was destroyed in an energy ribbon, which we saw two Picard's? Picard: Still doesn't count as it was a POSSIBLE outcome. LaForge: How about the time when the Enterprise was destroyed helping Romulans? Picard: Doesn't count as we hit the rewind button on time. Tori: Sadly what about when we were destroyed by the Duras sisters? Picard: That's because you were at the helm. Damn it Deanna.

@gregbadioli_915

You know that nukes do absolutely nothing in space right? That’s why a photon torpedo has the power of 400M nuclear bombs if I remember correctly. You can perfectly see how a proper photon torpedo planetary bombing looks like in the Utopia Planitia attack scene, country-size explosions taking place around the planet.
@DreamskyDance
@DreamskyDance Жыл бұрын
@@gregbadioli_915 Exactly... Nukes are powerfull on Earth because of the superheated shockwave made of air. No air, you just removed 80% of the bombs destructive capability. On top of that, everything is irradiated in space and everything is at one point or another exposed to a lot of heat. Explosion itself does damage but in reality better use for nuclear bomb in space is to use it to speed up some sort of kinetic projectile...
@DiscoDragonFTW
@DiscoDragonFTW Жыл бұрын
yes, all the ships in the Star Trek universe can survive nuclear detonation's the yield of a photon torpedo alone is supposed to be somewhere near the level of an atomic bomb what that ships can't survive is another ship being lodged in the deflector array
