One of my all time favorite quotes is from the movie 'Green Book': 'So if I'm not *black* enough and if I'm not *white* enough, and not *man* enough, then tell me, Tony, what am I?' As a person from a very different place, this one explained to me things more than any amount of history lessons or whatever. Peace \m/

You know what they say: you give your finger and next time people will want your hand. I haven't give up in request of non-english speaking artists. And you've been good for us (you've been good for everyone, in fact, such a diversity in your channel 😊) Next time, for you guitarist section you do once in a while (Paco de Lucia, Andrés Segóvia, etc..) just don't forget to react and see a Carlos Paredes performance. You will be blown away. Specially this song (there aren't many videos from him playing live, unfortunately) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j56ThZR-lsXbh4k.htmlsi=1JEm6-OW5IPh22me (poor video quality, but one of his unbelievable songs, "Variations in D Minor" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qr2AaKSG0bHXdY0.htmlsi=0ofVi0HgkTvTTA0D (soulfull song "Dawning Chant")

One of the best of the more melodic British punk bands (along with the Buzzcocks and the Clash), and certainly not a one-dimensional sound - they had both brash songs like this and also gentler tracks. They're often compared to early music by The Who from a decade earlier, which is a pretty fair comparison. The new sound's good, but the set still needs some work :)

You should give a listen to one of the greatest musicians that got popular on the 80's. His name is Djavan and he has a song featuring none other than Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica.

Check out Soldados from their first album, or maybe Angra dos Reis. For a deep cut, try Acrilic on Canvas from their second album. There are a lot of other songs I could mention, the well is deep. And a lot of other bands and artists from that period, like Barão Vermelho, Cazuza (who came out of Barão Vermelho), Engenheiros do Hawaii, Titãs and Paralamas do Sucesso are probably the best, for me at least.

Wow JP, I'm surprised that you take the time to check out some South American rock bands. Legião Urbana was an important band for its generation. They are one of a group of bands that assaulted the airwaves in the early eighties all from the nations capitol Brasilia. The name meaning Urban Legion called attention not just for the sparkling sounding guitar of Dado Villa-Lobos but mostly for the quality of singers Renato Russo's lyrics. Their first two albums are full of songs about relationships that can be read as not of a couple but of a generation with its country. Tempo Perdido, meaning Time Lost is, under the surface, questioning a new younger generation if they are prepared to get old under military dictatorship too. A more direct song from their first album is Soldado (Soldier) where he talks about playing soldier as a child; then repeatedly asks the question 'who is the enemy? who are you?'. Historically speaking, dictatorship in Brazil will fall under the weight of a failed economy a few years later in 1986. Renato Russo died early of AIDs related disease. Thank you for playing this and perhaps helping to expand the fanbase. Stay healthy.

I am a prog fan, but I didn't appreciate Supertramp until years later. But someone not even knowing about them? That's like saying you've never heard of Sing, Sing, Sing, or Take Five or In the Mood. Or Well All Right, or It's So Easy to Fall in Love, or Peggy Sue. Not to mention Not Fade Away.

No… He really didn’t get this song .. In a nutshell this song is about the snowman… The snow falls to the kids delight they build the snowman who takes on a life that the kids never see. But he lives and suffers being torn apart by the same children who just doesn’t know the snowman is alive.. Fictitious Yes, But BEAUTIFUL ALL THE SAME!!! BRAVO MIKE RUTHERFORD GREAT SONG!!!!

I still remember the first time I heard this song in an old stereo. Up until then the only song I've heard of Supertramp was The Logical song which I loved. But everything was about to change when I inserted a dusty burned cd that was inside a paper wrinkled red envelope with the word Supertramp written on it. I found it hidden on my father's stuff on time I was alone at home. Just by hearing the fade in of this song my mind was blown away and sinced then I forever became a Supertramp fan.

I have their first 2 cds on my phone. The lead guitaris reminds me of the lead guitarist of scotting band Gun. Both where were brilliant bands around at the same time. I have chatted to the lead singer Mark on facebook about the 2nd album and how it helped me when I moved to London in 1989. He's a nice fella.

While i agree it is very generic 80s pop, everything has its place, even if it's not my favourite genre. At the time, i was bouncing between Talk Talk and David Sylvian (in my lighter moments) and Killing Joke and Fields of the Nephilim (in my darker...). If you fancy checking out another track of theirs, try Big Area, which i think is a better track.

These guys were a unique sound in prog - as unique as Gentle Giant and Tull - all one-offs, with their own completely unique sound, but unmistakably prog. This is just a great track from another great Supertramp album, one of their finest classic disks.

Theses were a really good band, did 2 great albums then disappeared. Went to see them quite a few times back then, they were a great live band, even covered Led Zeppelin’s Trampled Under Foot. Great singer and frontman. Another great band/ album from this period are Cutting Crew again with their first album Broadcast, such a great album from start to finish. So many great bands around this period, these were my teenage years

I think I liked the Les Claypool ending best. :-) It's Tommy the Cat, right? Liking that 80's sound as you do, I'm pretty sure you'd love the *Major Parkinson* album, *Valesa* , which is set in those times, has some references to Kurt Vonnegut's Cats Cradle in it, and some to Lech Walesa, the leader of Poland's fight for freedom. They don't let themselves be pinned down too specifically, but there's a clear "80's feel", and it's deliberate. Looks like they've scrapped the idea of completing the second and third albums in the series, and gone over to a mixture of surviving by other means, and the occasional concert, now. That's a pity. My impression was that "Volume 2" was going to be yet another radical departure. There's a Valesa playlist on KZfaq, and isolated tracks. *Saturday Night* is one of those (but I'm pretty certain I've recommended it before). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d8iFjdp4mba0hI0.html (It gets a bit Depeche Modal at times.)
