Next time if no help you could make steps on the roof itself for the plywood out of 4ft 2x4s just put 2ft apart from the bottom and then slide up plywood set on board as you climb ..You could make 2x4 steps longer if needed your choice . Great job on cabin .

Installing that huge window was really cool. Since you screwed the sheet to the wooden structure, I wonder if you have had problems with the material warping, due to temperature changes.

If you precut all your rafter spacers at 25.5" they automatically be set at 24" OC. . . You need to learn some more building skills - those rafter ridge gussets are insufficient to hold the shape of that ridge. you will need to add collar ties within 1/3 of the top length of rafter.

In the past I didn't have issues of that kind: it is still a question mark tho... I guess that winter and the more frequent rains will tell me what to do. I can always rip it off and build a more common little deck

@mdoffgrid11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind compliments! As for the bottom of the rafters... I honestly don't know yet exactly how, but I'm thinking of using the leftovers from the t&g boards i will put on the walls (or even osb tbh) and covering all the gaps with polyurethane foam. But with the good weather I'm keeping it open so I can have some air going through because it gets HOT in there these days. I do have a much safer ladder at my parents' house but i always forget to take it... what a mess lol

They look all lined up right. I see the bird-mouthing at the base plate. Does that get nailed into a sheet of plywood? How will you finish the trusses at the base to keep out the elements? A soffit board of some kind?
@mdoffgrid Жыл бұрын
Hi Ray, the birdmouth is nailed into a sheet of osb which is nailed into the two joists that make the perimeter of the exterior frame. I'll cover the trusses with a roofing system: osb panels, hydro resistant membrane and metal roof panels: everything as light as possible

As long as you are happy with it that is all that matters. I designed a 14x14 A frame that has been built by many people and they also do their own modifications to suit their needs. Looks like you won't have room for a loft. Is this a recreation cabin or some other use?
@mdoffgrid Жыл бұрын
No, I won't have a loft. I'm not confident yet to build something like that lol and also it wouldn't be much useful to me. I'll use this cabin as a 'man cave' more or less

@mdoffgrid Жыл бұрын
Hi Joe! I'm in Italy. I found the insulation at a local Leroy Merlin store. It's a triple layer of reflective foil and an unidentified cloth. I'm assuming you're from the US area, so I don't know which store can have that type of material. Thank you so much for watching and following, it really means a lot to me, thanks! And good luck for your future cabin build, do it! It's worth it!
@BS.-.- Жыл бұрын
In addition to not matching up the sub floor seams you really should be useing glue to put the sheets down. I would absolutely forget that crummy bubble foil and use glue. Insulate between the bays with foam board and actualy get an R value along with removing the rodent highway of sagging bubble foil.

Not sure, but I think you laid the first row of floor board incorrect, there’s no strengthen the floor this way and more unnecessary cutting of boards and staggering of the boards is off.
