I was there for this. It was a bad day. We were hit by a VBIED just prior and these guys were clearing routes around our position as we were doing medevacs. Think about them every day.

I was 2D CEB, Staff Sergeant Stewart was my platoon Sergeant briefly before I went to do security on the rifle range for 6 months, when I got back to CEB he was already deployed with alpha company. I'll never forget when we all got the news. The entire battalion was out that night. While I never met Corporals Garabrant and Wolff, they were still my brothers. And as for Staff Sergeant Stewart, he left an impression on everyone who met him and especially anyone lucky enough to have him as a leader, even briefly. Fair winds and following seas

kilo 3/4 here, wpns plt. Was in Sangin 2013 and Upper Gereshk in 2011 south of sangin by about 12 miles. We had some overlap with 3/5. Appreciate what you did 3/7. I'm 36 now and I look back at this and we look like kids compared to now.

No disrespectful to all fellow Marine Corps Grunts, but it’s good to see the mighty 3/7 pushing above and beyond all Marine Infantry Standards, which are pretty dam high anyway. I was in 3/7 for 6yrs in the eighties to early nighties. Desert Storm and Mogadishu, Somalia back to back! 3/7 was always kept in a readily deplorable state, even returning from deployments and our campaigns we were back into training and the field almost immediately. I was about to go to Recon BRC after passing the BRCinterview and fitness test, but made a mistake (In a way) and went out clubbing with friends and ended up meeting the women that became my wife. Back then you had to have 3yrs infantry, 300 PFT score, 4.6 and above proficiency & conduct marks and command approval just to test for BRC. I worked so hard to get my chance, but all’s not lost! I’m still married to that young lady I met at the bar with my marine corps buddies. It’s been almost 33yrs now and just as tough as the Marine Corps, but it’s been well worth it. Anyway I digress! My life has been great because of Kilo 3/7. I would not be who I am and be where I am without having been a Marine and in 3/7. Oorah Marines!!!

I'm not trying to say that Marine Corps grunts from other units aren't tough, good, or squared away, but something about 7th Marines seems to elevate you guys above the rest of USMC Regiments. Well, maybe besides 5th Marines and 9th Marines, but anyway. Being at 29 Palms might suck when it comes to Libo, but in terms of training it's probably the best infantry training Marine grunts can get before they go Scout/ Sniper or Recon or Raider. No wonder 7th Marines for the longest time was the only unit permitted to go on the SPMAGTF-CR-CC, or that for the majority of the time since the Super Squad Competition returned to 1st MarDiv, 7th Marines has won it. Something about 29 Palms and 7th Marines.
