I like to contrast the pros and cons of different swimmer recovery methods, emptying or not emptying boats, which directions the rescuer and swimmer face and manoeuvrable versus easier paddling contact tows. It’s good to have a variety of techniques and flexibility to cope with varying conditions.

Venture Kayaks Easky or Skye, pretty much the same boat with minor outfitting differences. Unfortunately the don’t make them any more. They are great for the less experienced particularly on expedition as they feel quite stable but have loads of room for packing kit. I’ve also had more competent paddlers ripping up the waves in the various tide races around Seil, Scarba and Belnahua somewhat dispelling the myth that they are no good in rough conditions.
