@homeschoolculture thank you , I am Christian but I was wondering if those Christian science book are educational and something I could trust to study/teach even if I'm in a non Christian school
@katie77482 күн бұрын
@Ren-nu9hw They ARE educational. Very much so. I'm confused why you think they wouldn't be. In case you are wondering, what makes them Christian/religious is the approach. Some Christian curricula inserts God almost as an afterthought, just a Bible verse at the end of a lesson that ties into the subject somehow, while others have Him woven throughout. An example of the latter would be a lesson on seed dispersal and how we have Velcro because someone noticed how God designed burrs. This person thought it'd be a good idea to mimic God's creation. Hope that helps 😊 Edit: a word

Thank you so much for doing this!!!! Do colleges look down on giving high school credit if a student does high school work (ie, Algebra 1) in 8th grade?
@danalee865823 күн бұрын
I struggle with grading in the subjects where it is mostly reading. I try not to do the same ole reading ..workbook..quiz..test.. for every subject bu then have no idea how to give him a grade. Also, Do you give any credit for a subject that you decided to stop? For example, we started Intro to Logic and just did not like it at all. He finished at Ch. 12 (not even half) I feel bad that he spent time on this. Do I give him any credit for the work he did? Thank you!
@amydefoy134623 күн бұрын
Just curious on your thoughts as to what dual credit courses you would suggest to take for senior year - I’m having a hard time deciding which classes would be a good “intro” into college work. Also, I’m curious on your thoughts to the EIW writing you are using this coming year. Do you think it is a good fit for a struggling writer that also detests writing? I’m pretty sure he has dysgraphia, so I’m looking for a curriculum that is “no fluff” - I’m just wanting him to know how to write for college/real world. Thank you so much for your videos and wanting to answer our questions!!

I am just about ready to start homeschooling my rising 10th grader (who is neurodivergent and ready to be homeschooled). The plan is to allow her to go to her charter school for 10th grade and then begin homeschooling for 11th and 12th grades (so she can get a 2nd year of sign language and band credits). I've watched your videos and noticed that you choose your own curriculum. Please forgive me if anything I am asking is redundant or already recorded in a video... How do you know what curriculum/books/assignments to choose so that it aligns with your state's requirements? Do you keep track of your child's grades in a gradebook and actually grade your child's work, or do you have an app that does that? Does test-taking require a proctor? Do you or your state decide when your child has advanced to the next grade? How do you "prove" that what your child is learning meets your state's requirements? Please forgive me if I have exceeded the question limit, lol. Thank you for all of your efforts in educating parents on your experiences. Blessings to you and your family. 🙂

I wonder how important it actually is for biology and chemistry to be taken in high school, when those would probably have to be taken again in college if it fits within their major? Why waste a credit on it in high school just to take it again in college, you know? It seems like everything and everyone says to "take biology and chemistry in high school". My incoming 9th grader is interested in being a conservation officer or something with animals/environment. She wants to take Ecology in high school instead of biology. I like to think we should have the freedom to pick our science classes as homeschoolers (pick what our student is interested in) and not feel like we have to take what everyone else is taking. I hope this long post makes sense. Thank you for your help! Love your videos!

We love The Kitchen Pantry Scientist by Liz Lee Heinecke. Each topic covers the scientist who invented thr scientific theory/topic, had a brief intro to the subject and then follows with an experiment. Some of the chapters include, carbonation, oxidation, extraction, evaporation, surface tension, pH scale etc. Some of the scientists covered: Galen, Alessandro Volta, Marie Curie, Dmitri Mendeleev and many others. There are a total of 25 labs so it'll cover a good portion of the year well. Highly recommended!
