I love your FM crystal radio projects. I made several MW crystal radios successfully. But I failed to make a FM crystal radio and trying for the past one year. In my city, there are 11 FM stations and each 10KW power. I live within 20 km from the stations. I have a lcr meter and calculate the inductance and capacitance to get resonance frequency of 88 to 108. But it never worked. I used a one meter long telescopic antenna and the diode is D9 (Russian germanium diode). What is your suggestion for making a working fm crystal radio ? I am interested in getting a FM crystal radio from you for a price. I live in India.
@BillyCdiy24 күн бұрын
Thanks. I suggest you try my simplest FM crystal radio project first to test if your location can really receive FM crystal radio. 20km is marginal and may not receive FM crystal radio unless you have line of sight and non blocked view of your FM transmission station or located in a higher location or have a decent FM Yagi antenna (1.7M long). My simplest FM crystal radio will not need any coil nor VC . Just need antenna and two didoes. It will test if your diode is good for FM and if your location is good enough for Fm crystal radio. Diodes with high embedded capacitance cannot be used for Fm. I am not sure about D9. See video here: FM Crystal Radios Series - Part 2-The simplest FM Crystal Radio kzfaq.info/get/bejne/guBofbeosMfUY4U.html Even though your location may be too far or blocked from Fm radio station, You can also try to build an FM transmitter to test if your FM crystal radio is fine. @@BillyCdiy Thank you very much for your elaborate reply. I have ordered the diodes suggested in your videos and also an air variable capacitor of 20 pf. I hope to get them soon and start making fm crystal radio as per your schematics. I purchased 1ss86. Its forward voltage is 304 mV and its embedded capacitance is 6.6 micro farad and 5.4 micro farad. The diode is very small, orange body with a black ring. It did not have any number printed on it. I will try to use 2 of them with antenna, without coil and variable capacitor to receive fm and let you know shortly. What is the embedded capacitance of a diode if it is suitable for fm detection? I have ordered a fm transmitter kit also to check my fm crystal radio. I thank you once again for your suggestions.

There's a small error in your schematic. I spent hours trying to debug my circuit before realising your display pin 8 (BL) is NC but needs to be connected to 3.3v. As soon as I did that my device came to life! Thanks for taking the time to share this with us all, I had a lot of fun making it.
