Your Suction dredge hasn’t got much suck, need to look at up grading that, when a suction dredge is working properly you don’t want your hands anywhere near the nozzle it’s all about volume otherwise your just messing around….. That messing around reflected in the pathetic amount of gold you got!!

Yah, where to start? The water is very fast by the looks of it. What is the rise over run on the river at the spot you plan to dredge. With that in mind make a plan for the test hole. Work smarter not harder. Carry a piece of mesh fence or milk crates and derock the spot you want to test. I have watched videos and you guys get rock bound it seams to me. Don't start in the middle of the river like you did. Start on the inside corner get down 3 feet and see what's there. If a false bottom or bedrock then do a 4 by shut down and check top map. From there it is up to the amount of gold. The cut wall will keep the current from hitting you if you go left but i suspect that the gold is on the right side looking at the limited vid you showed. Way down you ankles and run 90 pounds of lead so you are able to base yourself in fast water. If the test whole is good start putting all the rocks from your basket where the beaver dam was. It will raise the water up and slow the flow. Get a cheap drone so you can look up river to see what's there with out having to walking it. You have a 5 or 6 inch so it is only good for 5 to 6 feet of over Bearden realistically. That is assuming all the gold is on bedrock and not just flood gold. USE YOUR NOZZLE MORE! That one guy must run out of gloves and his arms and shoulders must hurt by the shift end. lol ps take a 16 inch bar down to help bust bed rock. Good luck
@twodudesonedredge3 күн бұрын
Thanks Bill. There’s lots of good advice in there. Getting ready to get back to it now. We aren’t sure if we are going back to that claim this year but I think we will be taking a different approach the next time we try to get down to bedrock

I'd try digging up some of that clay . It could have gold in the top layer of it. Being it has decent size rocks in it! Depending on how hard it is. Maybe use a auger in a drill while dredging! Only catching the chunks a bucket or trough at the end of the sluice! Or use a concrete drill and drill out enough to get a hammer and chisel to break out chunks! As a kid I used to dig up a dark grey clay in a creek! It was about 10' below ground level ! Below the red clay soil we have in the Appalachian foothills . It was loaded with a fine gold grit. Like a sand slightly more coarse than the clay. I use to make stuff from it! Sit it up on the roof in summer it has to been 150° or better , that year it was 95-101°, it would get hard , not as hard as fired clay. It would hold shape after getting wet. it could dry again keep it's shape. I figure it was iron pyrite in the clay we had a ton of black silt in the area! The sinks, toilets. , washing machine, everything would get silted up with the black sand from the well. And it was only ,300 yard from the creek. And 300' deep on a slight hill so I would guess the bottom of the well was roughly 40-50' below the creek. No more than ,80'-100'. I know there is very little gold in this area, no one said here id NONE! The amount of clay I dug up, id say there was probably 1/10-2/10 of an gram of gold in it. (if it was gold) . Not sure how much clay was there it was not easy to get! It was below water, covered in red clay soil, with creek sand and gravel over it! I had to dig up under the creek bank to get it. The creek was in a valley and had come across the field over the years so I was digging in the old creek bed. It was above the new bed yet below water! It had creek gravel and sand over it then about 6' -10' of red clay soil. I'm curious if there was any gold in the clay. It had the fine black sand, all the gold mines are further east from here. It's been 30 years+ so who knows it is definitely not enough to mine if it was
@twodudesonedredge4 ай бұрын
How far east are the gold mines? We should sample that. Thanks for watching.

Whats the source of the gold?
@twodudesonedredge5 ай бұрын
That's a good question! Likely veins of gold deposited along with quartz and other minerals, then eroded into the river by rain, snow, etc. then the river sorts and transports the gold until we go and find it
@russtgrower7505 ай бұрын

The noise of the dredge usually will keep the bears away and more bear attacks happen from brown bears which have been known to actively stalk people.
@twodudesonedredge4 ай бұрын
Yeah we keep firearms close but have never felt compelled to carry one down on the river. I have spent time while my partner was diving thinking about the scenario if were ever to come up. I would have access to some high pressure water that I suppose may deter the bear. We saw one just outside of camp this past summer. I worry more about our stuff than ourselves most of the time.

I searched for two years before I found a good spot on our claim. Everywhere there was shallow bedrock I had marginal gold. I finally found a spot where I’m getting 1/4 to a 1/2 ounce a day. Only problem is it’s 6-7 feet deep below the over burden. I know it feels daunting but my advice is to defiantly get to bedrock. When I start a hole I spend at least one full tank with my 6” Keene just widening out a spot to work. I usually never even see bedrock until close to the end of the day. Don’t give up guys you’ll find it soon.
