That Cats stage dancing to movie dancing was bad. BUT OMG that Les Mes stage to movie singing that was painful on the ears...it won't get worse right? Ramin's Phantom appears and then Gerald Bulter's Phantom says "Hold My Beer."

I liked that you included both movie versions of WSS! It's so interesting to see the different interpretations. Some are better, some are not. Even different stage performances or different movie versions have different takes. It's fun to compare them.

I prefer Emmy Rossum as Christine because she belts but doesn't have the same operatic embellishments, I think it really highlights the contrast between her and Carlotta.

The biggest difference aside from difference in talent is the celebrities sound like they're just doing their best to sing a song, where the professional theater actors have a knack for making the songs to sounds like the characters are just talking to each other, it just happens to be in a sing song way. You call tell which celebrities came from theater because they can do it as well.If that makes sense to anyone else.

Not sure if it was just the clips chosen but usually I’m more of a Broadway fan and feel like I lean more towards the Broadway shows instead of the movies but quite a few times this time I enjoyed the movie clips so much better

For some of them, the main difference seems to be the ease of vibrato, most notably with Nick Jonas vs Michael Ball. For Cinderella, I think I actually like Keke Palmer a bit better, she sounds a lot more natural, as vibrato can sometimes feel a bit stiff.

Loved the clips but still unsure what point you are making. A trained Broadway voice is its own unique animal (which was driven home on a weekly basis during many weeks of American Idol). I don't think anyone, including the producers, anticipates or expects 8 great shows per week for whatever number of weeks that celebrity is in the show. That celebrity is there to bring in their fans to see the show (aka put butts in the seat) and continue it's run. IF they do a great job...it's a plus and they'll get extended, asked back or get another show. If memory serves correct, Nick Jonas went onto replace Darren Criss who replaced Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. Sure, you will get performances like that clip of Cameron Dallas but.....stunt casting will continue and the seats will be filled.

Brendan Urie slaaayed. His performance style is very theatrical to begin with, so he's very comfortable with big gestures and big emotions. The OBC guy was excellent as well, but Brendan shows us why he's a literal rock star. Also, the best She Used to Be Mine version is Kelly Clarkson. (OK, so it's Kellyoke and not on this video, but if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and look it up.)

I found that the long-time broadway actors had more presence in stage and more expressive and powerful voices in general. However, some of the celebrities had a refreshing way of acting and singing that wasn't so easily recognized as "broadway" acting and singing (which makes sense with their backgrounds). For example, some had more realistic/nuanced acting and didn't sing in that super rounded and gliding 20th century musical voice (which, although technically very good, can get tiring for audiences). I hope we can see more and more broadway actors and directors bring in different singing styles and genres to broadway. Jessie Mueller and Hamilton are some good examples.

Nick Jonas actually was pretty good, but Michael Ball is devastatingly good.
