I've made a layered salad that has all of these ingredients plus shredded lettuce. I will definitely try this because the peas are the best part without the mess of finely shredding the lettuce. Thanks for sharing!

I add two chopped up hard boiled eggs

This is the consistancy of a fruit cake when putting in the pan but the apples will let off som juice so I think it will be more tender.

First time here, never see this salad and it looks good

My mom made this recipe when I was young and I still make it. The only difference is we make ham balls instead of a loaf. I’ve never ground the ham though, I buy it in loaf form. However, the price just shot up to $12.00 for a 1# loaf. I’m gonna have to have the butcher grind it for me now.

Double check your cans. Keystone only uses meat and sea salt. None have water added. What you are seeing in the cans are the natural juices from the meat.

Up until I was about 4yo my dad went hunting with some of his family. My mom had a recipe for mincemeat which she used some of that venison for. Every thanksgiving she would make mincemeat pies for my dad. One year one of my dads sisters came over to visit and the conversation turned to hunting. My aunt went on about how she didn't like venison. Later my mom offered her a piece of mincemeat pie. She went on and on about how good it was. Neither Mom nor dad ever told her it had venison in it. The recipe mom had gotten from her sister. I still have the recipe and at one mom and I decided to make it. The recipe read like "one bowl of this. 2 bowls of something else. Half a bowl of something". I finally asked my mom " what size bowl are we supposed to use?". She said it didnt matter as long as you use the same bowl. I looked in my cupboard and picked out a bowl. We ended up with 12 quarts of mincemeat
