Why lift from hind and not front? ? Most horses are front heavy (not balanced on all four) would lifting hind not put more weight onto front? Also: can/should this be done without holding horses' head in static position- hindering it to balance properly (innately?). Learning to NOT " slap" a horse, but rather stroke. What's your take on that? Thank you

What a beautiful horse. “Pete” as he’s known at his stables (Carl Hester) and now a nine year old superstar at the Herning World Championships 2022. A Bronze in the team Grand Prix, 4th in the individual Grand Prix, 6th in the Grand Prix Special and 10th in the Kur (with 6 riders achieving 83% )..

😎 video. This makes it easy for both the horse and rider to understand. My horse has wanted to start running and the way you show helps help her slower without pulling on her face.

I love the way in which your explanation and your entire demeanor are so calming and simple and make it all seem really quite doable. All of it makes sense, it gives me the feeling that I can carry this over into my own practice. A truly excellent teaching video. Thank you.

Really great video. I’ve got 10yo horse in 2019 with weak basics and now moving to PSG. I had to go back a bit because his contact issues keep us from getting higher marks. He is super nervous sometimes and clinching his teeth (overall vet and teeth are checked and ok). He doesn’t have much room in his mouth (big tongue big gums low port) so he is constantly trying to open mouth in a double. How could I get him more through? Because when I apply more leg to the steady hand he put his head up and speeds up instead of going forward onto the contact.

Great Video, I am struggling with my new 10 year old mare who has done very little, she is inconsistent in the contact and quite fussy in the mouth. I can get a lovely contact but it is intermittant, and I think i do fiddle to much. Part of this is a safety thing because she can be quite spooky sharp and naughty. She has quite a small mouth for a large horse 17hh. Do you reccommend any particular bits for something fussy? Or just a plain single jointed snaffle? I know they are all different but thought i would ask. Thanks
@henryboswelldressage3 жыл бұрын
Obviously you want something with that fits the mouth really well!! I really like the Fager bits as they are so lightweight or the bomber bits, I’ve found the bomber happy tongue but really helpful with fussy mouths. I would definitely try bridging my reins and maintaining a good contact with the mouth until you feel her become confident in the rein and starts to take the hand forward. The spooking, or the ability to control the spook will definitely improve with the contact 😀

Great video, I struggle keeping consistent contact - they get longer and longer as I ride and can’t seem to keep hold of them. I’m constantly trying to shorten up my reins. Any ideas to help please ??
@kippen643 жыл бұрын
A good instructor can be a huge help because they can see what is happening and give you instant feedback. You can then try their advice while they are there watching and ready to help.

I would really try bridging the reins to help keep your contact consistent, and then if the horse starts to get longer keep making transitions to get it together!!!
