Was last in the US, Florida, in March 2020, just as covid was taking hold. Here in Britain we don`t have the space for these adventures, as soon as good weather comes, everywhere is crowded on all beaches and access to water, for my small boat. Was a great trip there, a close second to California the year before.

I wondered what that job would entail. I bought a used moored 1970 J in 1984, and the owner had home fiberglassed the syern as it had gotten soft. It was a sloppy job but good enough for me for two years on a large bay...as I didn't own a motor. I wouldn't have trusted it with anything more than a troller. I trailered it and always kept it dry. I trailer parked it at a brokerage after I bought a SJ21 for two years and it got softer...since nobody bought it (hey free dry storage) I thought about rebuilding the transom but I was going to sell it for $900...so I bought a GetRot kit from the broker's chandlery for $30....drilled holes and filled the whole thing with get rot (basically thin fiberglass resin)...then coated it with matte and repainted. I felt better selling it that way...which I did about 2 months later to a lady that lived on the bayfront and wanted a pier runner. A couple years later I passed her on the bay. She was still very happy with it. Good looking job. Excellent finished product. Boat looks better without that aqua two tone they had till the mod 70s. Did the seat gap get filled with a stack of coosa board cutouts?
@growntogether9913
@growntogether9913 3 ай бұрын
I did cut several coosa inserts to support the cut out pieces and used thickened epoxy in a caulk tube to glue everything back in to place. This was not a cheap repair by the time I replaced the rub rail and painted the boat. It does get compliments at the boat launch and I don’t have to wax or fuss about the finish since going to polyurethane boat paint. If you’re ever considering doing it on a different project boat the repairs turned out great and I think it was worth the effort.

I just now used the Dorman front driver side clamp on my 2001 Tahoe, 5,3 Vortec. I am far from being a mechanic. It took me maybe 15 minutes max. Exhaust ticking gone! It fit perfectly with no trimming of heat shield required. I just disconnected the coil wire (left the spark plug wire connected) and temp sensor. I used anti-seize on bolts and screwed the clamp on and tightened down on the manifold bolt. Reattached everything and it worked like a charm! I highly recommend the Dorman clamp. Don't fool with cheaper model.

Thank you for a very insightful and informative video. We just moved back to the countryside, and I am about to purchase a flock for the first time in about ten years. I have been considering getting the Salmon Faverolles, and your video was really helpful. I really like the Salmon Faverolles because I want chickens that are good with my grandchildren and that like human interaction, and I really like the way they look. Seeing the way they ran across the yard in your video was the cutest thing, and made me want to get them even more. But now I realize that I really need to consider how I can prevent them being picked on by the other chickens. Buying the entire flock at the same time, and spending a lot of time genteling them, and socializing the chicks together, in my presence, from the time they are one day old chicks may eliminate the problem. But animals are animals, and I grew up on a farm so I know I will still need to be vigilant in monitoring their behavior, and even then, a timid chicken may still get picked on. I really appreciate you sharing the real attributes of this breed, both good and bad, so viewers can make a really informed decision about whether the Faverolles are a good breed for them. And in my case it has raised an issue that I did not realize about the breed, that I can now prepare for. Thank you.

I am seriously interested in buying one, but sort of nervous since I saw this one review on KZfaq. Any feedback back would be awesome! (Am just a simple hobby car guy, and it’s mainly for storage and oil changes a few times a year.)
@growntogether9913

I recently had to go through all of the adjustments because one of the safety catches was hitting differently than the others. I am sure this was just cable stretching from normal use. 20 minutes, wrenches, and a tape measure got it working perfectly again. I did oil changes, differential checks, basic maintenance on four trucks last night. Dropped two gas tanks last month. Have done new hard brake lines which required the gas tank to be removed. It cost $30 in brake line and the afternoon. The more I use the lift the happier I am with the purchase. Personally it has paid for itself in saved labor costs.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, it’s greatly appreciated. I probably won’t use it as much as you, more to store a car on, with a few oil changes. Sounds as long as a person stay on top of maintenance and adjustments, the lift works well. Thanks again.

Would this boat be big enough for 2 adults plus 2 kids (9 and 10)? For sure too small to camp on but just for day sailing?
@growntogether9913
@growntogether9913 6 ай бұрын
It’s not the biggest cockpit but it’s doable when you pitch everything inside the little cabin. We routinely take three adults. The 16 is slow, heavy, predictable. For those reasons, I think it’s ideal for kids that sit on ropes or move around with no concept of counter ballast. The boat is pretty stiff with a small rig so you can take a beat to free rigging or assess what you need to do. A child, or even two, climbing around won’t make a huge difference in heeling angle. Admittedly a tiny boat but a well mannered daysailer. I would go look at one and assess for your needs.

I would suggest looking for a Oday Mariner. it's a bit bigger @ 19 ft long. I have one and it works for me. However, for 4 people, (if you want to be comfortable) I would suggest 22-24 footers unless you REALLY like each other. But for a day sail on the cheap? I'd get a Mariner.
@guydumas3304
@guydumas3304 5 ай бұрын
It depends on your size. If you’re small it can be a good boat for two adults and two kids. If you’re sailing on a lake with shifting winds the cockpit is small for 4 people even if they are small. If you’re in an area with steady wind direction it’s plenty roomy for a family of four. When I had a compac 16 we mostly sailed it two at a time and when we had four aboard we often had two in the cabin and out of the cockpit. I’m the largest person in my family at 5’7” and 150 lbs so take that into consideration when I say we ran out of room in the cockpit for active sailing. It worked great for us because it was mostly my daughter and I sailing with my wife and son joining occasionally. Another consideration is that the boat is small enough for 1O year olds to handle raising sails and handling sheets. That’s a plus. My daughter was able to sail it solo at 12 and probably could have done it younger had we started sooner.

I went out and took a few measurements for you. The ramps on my lift are more like 4 3/8 inches. Based on your measurements it looks like you have a little over 3.5 inches of wiggle room. The problem I think you will run into is that the safety catches and the desired lift height will have to be carefully calculated and executed. 1. You are lifting the ramps past an adjustable safety stop on each post. Looks like the stops have 3 inches of adjustment possible. 2. At the lower end of the travel there is a stop at about 58 inches. Meaning I have several inches of adjustment to raise that stop height. 3. In order to release the safeties, you have to lift the top car high enough out of the stops so they are free. Meaning you should leave several inches of lift height. 4. You might be limited on which car goes on top and below based on how you can adjust the stops. I would call support, run all your measurements by them, and ask for an opinion. My experience calling was really positive. The person I spoke with knew the lift inside and out. Another option would be to respond to some of the other commenters here. A few have mentioned height limitations and they might be able to offer some additional thoughts.

Thanks for sharing. Is the cabin of this boat comfortable to sleep in?
@growntogether9913
@growntogether9913 8 ай бұрын
It depends on your needs. It is quite small. The berths go under the bench seats and are very deep but narrow. I am 5‘11“ and 200 pounds. The biggest issue I have is the thin cushions, so I cut a mattress topper to fit the bunks for more padding. I can honestly say when you’ve been out in the wind, sun, or cold all day the little cabin is a nice place to take a break. Weather protection wise it’s very comfortable, if you require a lot of space to sprawl out, it is going to feel claustrophobic. We cope with the tiny cabin because these boats are easy to rig while still offering very forgiving and seaworthy sailing. We have also found that we used bigger more accommodating things less often than the simpler ones. This is why I bought the 16. If I want, I can do a single-handed day sail very easily.
