this was so clear and informative. i love the bits where you call attention to the goals of each step and why things go a certain way. i've seen so many tutorials and this was by far the best! no more rewatching other videos at .75x LOL thank you!

"結び" i think that is the proper kanji for musubi. and i love the kimono it really fits for christmas i think it would match with a lighter shade of orange or a dark red

How did your obi not loosen while you were doing the sunrise while having a the ends only secured by a loose loop? My attempts cause the the obi to get way too loose unless I use a himo to keep it in place for the fiddly bits

I was so impressed with this video cause she is the foreigner to try to wear the kimono by herself. I was wondering why the Japanese younger generation doesn’t have same passion to the kimono as her. Anyway this video will open someone’s eye to wear the kimono.Great and thanks so much.

Goddy Beast the troupes are called ren. It’s not hard to join but hard to do the dance itself. The warm will kill your back and legs before you even get to learn the steps. Almost every prefecture has a ten that does awa. It’s not free to join and you have to buy the outfit eventually after a few times of being embarrassed about borrowing someone else’s expensive kimono.

Hi! I'm actually the girl being dressed in the video. I totally forgot that my friend and I made this! I was able to join this ren because I was teaching English in the area and was interested in doing awa odori. I originally wanted to do the man's dance, but I was terrible at it so I wound up doing the woman's dance, which is why I have this outfit, ha ha. It was free to be a part of my group, save for paying to rent the outfit. Eventually my group ordered new yukata and I was able to purchase that one completely and bring it home! My ren was called Yasaka-ren. We danced year round and traveled to Kobe and Osaka to perform for visitors in the area. Of course we also performed on the big stages during the big Awa Odori festival!

The biyosugata is definitely hard to come by. I can't find a one! I know sometimes people get lucky and score one off ebay or some auction sites but not me. This style of obi tying seems easy with the biyosugata >.>
