The ending as it is is....ok. But if they'd left it alone, no narration, just him escaping and being watched by the pods in the distance as his warnings went ignored...that would have been an absolutely wonderful dark ending
@defectosespeciales4 күн бұрын
In fact, in the original ending, the protagonist, Dr. Miles Bennell, frantically warns people about the alien invasion and the spread of "pod people." The film was intended to conclude with him standing in the middle of a highway, shouting, "You're next! You're next!" as cars pass by, oblivious to the threat. This ending emphasized the sense of despair and the inevitability of the invasion. However, the studio felt that this ending was too bleak and demanded a more hopeful conclusion, leading to the ending that we know today.

Always wondered what the point the pod bodies where. As at the end Becky falls asleep then just wakes up as a pod person. But she was no where near her pod body. Thought the real bodies are supposed to disintegrate and the pod bodies wake up? So it made no sense her real body just waking up.

I wonder if anyone has really considered the dangers of travelling to another planet. Especially a miserable looking,monochromic place like Mars.Imagine seeing that same lifeless,monotonous place every day. Imagine being the first crew to land there. Will anyone else come? Will they even survive the journey? How long can you remain sane when confronted by these impossible conditions very day? Going to Mars will be like entering a concentration camp,with nothing but hard relentless work to stay alive. No respite,and very little rest.This could break many people. This will be trying to live on a dead,featureless world,which has nothing to relieve the fear which will be a common factor for everyone there. No rescue if things go wrong. They could be dead before the call reached Earth. And then what? Send another crew to face the unknown,and somehow live through it? And what happens if the relief ship crashes? What chance of help then? Living on that planet could well send some people mad,much like living on the moon. That place could destroy one's sanity in no time,the light and dark,the nearness of the horizon,the constant possibility of an atmosphere breach, meteorite impacts,radiation,loneliness. Not a walk in the park by any means. And very likely highly expensive in human life.

@@hugebartlett1884 in fact, I think exactly like you do. And I believe that we are decades far to put any foot on Mars safely, despite all tecnology on current developing dedicated to that. Right now I think it could be a 85% -or more- suicide mission. I wish I was wrong, because I really want that happens, but to loose people in space or to see a horrible death on Mars surface could be a too much huge impact on public opinion and a big brake for space travels. We are not 1960s anymore, and to loose people exploring "new worlds" is not an option neither. About the Moon, I'm not totally agree with you. It's around the corner in comparision with Mars, and there is a solid space program regarding that on its way, so I guess before a decade we will see something. If you ask a person 40 years ago about to live permantly in space it would sound as a sci-fi dream but now you know... (I mean ISS and Mir; before that was only short timing experiments).

There is a major plot flaw in this part of this great movie. By the movie's own rules, one would fall asleep and be replaced by one's pod double. Here, the woman falls asleep, and instantly becomes one of the invaders. Still a great movie.
@defectosespeciales3 жыл бұрын
It's not a major plot flaw, It's a dramatic license to sharp the end's horror. The normal time of the action is altered to remove the control of the movie from the spectator and make it more impredecible and scarier. I can remember a scene of some "Dracula" movie when the night did fall in a very overnormal faster way leaving the victim trapped with no escape and without time to run away before Dracula awakes. Was a great scene. That's why movies are so wonderfully amazing :)
@haberer45103 жыл бұрын
Didn't Becky fall asleep offscreen, and was replaced while Miles was away? So, while saying "We can't make it without sleep" she had already been podified and merely pretending to be still human. Presumably in order to lure Miles towards the exit of the cave, so as to be able to point him out to fellow pod people.
@matthewballa86393 жыл бұрын
@@haberer4510 That works, and is reasonable.
@marianoyuba37364 күн бұрын
The remake goes about it a bit more realistically, with Matthew finding her just about as she's snatched, and her pod emerging naked. Still...there's nothing to say these pods couldn't be a bit faster, and that there wasn't one lying about, ready to pop, which then took her clothes and her place
