Pulled off the highway in Missouri And lo, our hearts were heavy laden Made for the chapel with some spray paint For all the things we'd held in secret Lord, lift up these lifeless bones Light cascading through the windows All the rainbow's heavy tones He has fixed his sign in the sky He has raised me from the pit and set me high Left that place in ruin Drunk on the spirit and high on fumes Checked into a Red Roof Inn Stayed up for several hours and then slept like infants In the burning fuselage of my days Let my mouth be ever fresh with praise He has fixed his sign in the sky He has raised me from the pit and set me high Each morning new Each day shot through With all the sharp, small shards of shrapnel That seem to burst out of me and you Head down toward Kansas We will get there when we get there, don't you worry Feel bad about the things we do along the way But not really that bad We inhaled the frozen air Lord, send me a mechanic if I'm not beyond repair He has fixed his sign in the sky He has raised me from the pit and he will set me high

Masks hanging on the tomb walls Where the coven grieves Witches hiding in the brambles Ground level down where the dry leaves Blow and burn slowly No ground is ever gonna hold me Bright candles in the manor Where the curse takes hold Bodies reassembling down where the worms crawl Make your own friends when the world's gone cold It gets dark and then I feel certain I am going to rise again If not by faith then by the sword I'm going to be restored Build fires to keep the beacon flashing Where the earth lies flat Blood calls to blood as the hours draw down Invent my own family if it comes to that Hold them close, hold them near Tell them no one's ever going to hurt them here Steal the treasure and try to leave town Fight my way back down Don't want to hurt anyone Probably gonna have to before it's all done Take to the hills, run away I'm gonna get my perfect body back someday If not by faith then by the sword I'm going to be restored

So, I really thought this song was about refugees, and the fight to keep them here and welcome and fed and taken care of. Apparently, it was originally about meth 🧐

The fact that John messed up on the same part that I messed up on trying to play this from memory is absolutely mind-blowing and humbling. What a real person.

When first hearing this song, I felt it.. like deeply. I have been to rehab and i believe this song is about rehab. The community in there is so tight and welcoming. It changed my life to go there. 3 years sober! Thank you for this beautiful song. ✌️

The first time I heard this song, at all, I was high on LSA derived from Hawaiian Baby Woodrose Seeds. I was blown away by the passion encapsulated in the delivery of the lyrics (and knowing he discredits this song as misogynistic at a later date) I am still awestruck by his delivery.

I love this song because it captures being 20 and assuming you're an artist by doing something pretentious sounding and stupid. In other words, I hear this song and remember being 19-20 and writing terrible poetry but thinking I sounded deep because I used lines like "the most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway, is that it's you, and that you're standing in the doorway."

Does anyone know the chords he is playing here? I haven’t been able to find a reliable tab and it just sounds lovely in this video
@julialevy6163
@julialevy6163 3 жыл бұрын
Its all barre chords It goes C#m (same position as u would do for Bm but two frets up), G# (same as F#, but two frets up), A major (played like G# but one fret up), B major (Two frets above A), then E major Played like a B major barre chord would NORMALLY be played, but with the barre on the 7th fret. And then i think it goes back to G# then A, then B and the chorus is just A, E and B at the end. Most tabs out there have the right chords, but you have to find the version of the chord that is a barre chord

My grandfather is dying of a debilitating disease on another continent. We weren't close, neither was my mother - who will wishes she could visit him again and feels responsible. Even though it's unlikely, the "perfect body" in physical and emotional capacity is something I wish we could get back after death.

every now and then i come back and watch this just to hear the incredible line "the world throws its light underneath your hair" again. i think it's noteworthy that even though it might not be the healthiest thing to write, the way he writes was still so strong. like with "the feeling of being in motion again". idk there are songs of his that are straight poetry but there's something about the openness of songwriting that he really pins down and makes work every time. anyway thats enough of my 3am tmg opinions .thanks for the upload
