The ME text as it's currently posted on Choralwiki. This is about how i remember it appeared in the score when i sang it in the early 1980s. Thank you for singing and posting this able rendition of a heartfelt prayer! (After all these years i STILL have not found out much about "Richard de Castre".) Middle_English.png Middle English text Jhesu, Lord, that madest me, and with thy blessyd blood hast bought, forgive that I have grievéd thee with word and wil, and eek with thought. Jhesu, in whom is all my trust, that died uppon the roodé tree, withdrawe myn herte from fleshli lust, and from all worldly vanyté. Jhesu, for thy woundés smerte on feet and on thyn handés two, O make me meeke and low of herte, and thee to love as I schulde do. Jhesu, keepe them that are good, amend them that han grievéd thee, and send them fruites of earthli food as each man needeth in his degree.

OUTSTANDING ! That puts me in mind of my student days in Philadelphia when St Clement's was my church. Glad to see you have kept your liturgical style high, and that your high altar has not been desecrated by revisionists. And you choir is PRIMO !

1 O sing a new song to the Lord, for wonders he hath done: His right hand and his holy arm him victory hath won. 2 The Lord God his salvation hath caused to be known; His justice in the heathen’s sight he openly hath shown. 3 He mindful of his grace and truth to Isr’el’s house hath been; And the salvation of our God all ends of th’ earth have seen. 4 Let all the earth unto the Lord send forth a joyful noise; Lift up your voice aloud to him, sing praises, and rejoice. 5 With harp, with harp, and voice of psalms, unto Jehovah sing: 6 With trumpets, cornets, gladly sound before the Lord the King. 7 Let seas and all their fullness roar; the world, and dwellers there; 8 Let floods clap hands, and let the hills together joy declare 9 Before the Lord; because he comes, to judge the earth comes he: He’ll judge the world with righteousness, his folk with equity.

@@PalmerJennie I'm sorry. I came across badly. He is technically good, but in my humble opinion overshadows the singing a bit too much. No, I am not perfect. Pretty mediocre.....My sincerest apologies once again.

I absolutely love this Bairstow Chant. We used to use it for the Magnificat during the 1990s. Alas, hard to find a proper Parish Church Choir singing a Choral Evensong here in England. Even then, they used those horrible fancy settings for the Canticles instead of proper Anglican Chants. I firmly believe that the congregation should be able to join in with the Psalms and Canticles rather than sit on their hands and listen.

I hope that at some point in his life Sir Stephen Cleobury heard the descant verse of this. It is one of my favorite descants. Wareham is in my Top 20 Favorite Hymn Tunes, by the way. And yes, I am devastated about Sir Stephen's death. He & Sir David Willcocks were my favorite English choir directors (I am an American Anglophile; I have been an Anglophile for 25 years now).

A classic example of the english liturgical music tradition. It's simplicity and beauty are really something special. It's a shame than most episcopal churches in the US are so liberal, and saccharine in their liturgical approach that most parishes never move past singing hymns written and composed in the 80's
