What is the blank die used for? Can it be used to just compress the clay? Almost like a pug mill?

Hey quick question. What is bisk firing to cone 04? Is that firing in a kiln? Thanks
@baileypotteryequipment9181
@baileypotteryequipment9181 2 күн бұрын
Hey, Great question. Bisque firing refers to the practice of an initial firing of the ware in a kiln to make it impervious to water. It makes the piece absorbent for glazing which we apply and fire in a “glaze firing” to a higher temperature. The cones we speak of are Pyrometric Cones that melt at specific temperatures. Cone 04 is roughly 1945 degrees Fahrenheit.

I believe it was just over 24 hours. You will want to monitor it because drying times will vary based on the humidity and dryness of the studio climate. Let us know if you try this technique, and how it goes for you! Happy making!

Hi! While we sell the products used to create the beads, we don't sell the cord. It is a waxed cotton cord found on Etsy.

Great question! You could fire these pieces in any ceramic kiln. We prefer our trusty Bailey Kilns or for a smaller option a Paragon Caldera Test Kiln. You can check out the options we carry here: www.baileypottery.com/store-dept-gas-electric-kilns/kilns-top-loading-electric-kilns-by-brand.html?cat=109

Hi Debbie! Thanks for asking. Because the wheel is in the round, I think this technique works best for round forms. However, slabs of clay can be draped onto the square forms. You can see the variety of slab molds we offer here: www.baileypottery.com/store-dept-pottery-ceramic-tools/store-handbuilding-sculpture-tools/store-handbuilding-sculpture-tools-slab-and-tools.html

Is underglaze a special glaze or just glaze used in the special technique?
@baileypotteryequipment9181
@baileypotteryequipment9181 Жыл бұрын
Great question! "Underglazes - Underglazes are used in pottery to create designs and patterns that will come up through the glaze covering them, which can give the surface more visual depth and character. They are applied to a greenware or bisque surface, then covered with a glaze. Commercial underglazes are formulated so they stay where they are and don't tend to bleed or move."
