Do not wear your outdoor footwear indoors. Window blinds are not as good as ordinary curtains which could be washed monthly. Dont have carpeting instead have floors you could sweep Use light wooden furniture instead of fabric furniture as it collects personal dirt _ hair, dead cells and food. Dont let anything block the walls _ sticking bed frames against walls hides a lot of gunk so never push furniture against walls. Avoid bed frames that can accumulate dust and grime.

UUUHM!!! A note on vacuuming. Short story. In Sweden it became commonplace to vacuum the house, while in Finland they opted mostly to sweep the floor with a broom. In the end we Swedes saw a spike in dust allergies because vacuum sends a lot of dust flying through the air. I got to experience first hand what receiving too high of a dust dosage does to you when I vacuumed a lot to have a friend stay over. I had a bad irritated cough for a week or two. Now I have a broom, a robot roomba cleaner, as well as a vacuum. For the quick surface stuff, I send the robot out and since I'm not near the robot vacuum I don't get the worst of it. For specific small very dusty areas I use the vacuum. For the biggest surfaces I use an honest good old broom. Mind your allergies, frens. Friendly friens.
@ExpertHomeTips
@ExpertHomeTips Ай бұрын
A broom or a sweeping tool may not stir up as much dust into the air compared to vacuuming, but it may not capture all the allergens effectively either. Using a combination of methods, like a combination of broom, vacuum, and possibly a robot vacuum cleaner, as you described, could be a good strategy to reduce allergen exposure while maintaining cleanliness.

Honestly, cleaning is the hack... When I was a hoarder... Dust would be everywhere as I don't clean my room at all. Now there's hardly any dust on surfaces anymore and I don't get sick often as well. A humidifier though, kinda works as it depends on where you live, if it's arid with low humidity it works but, if you already live where it's humid it doesn't.

I just use washable curtains over pull-down shades. I throw the curtains into the wash weekly and wipe down the shades with a damp cloth. My neighbor takes her blinds down and just turns the hose on them outside. So far, so good. You had good basic tips. And don't forget to change those filters in your A/C, heater, air purifier, and vacuum.

Dust and pollen is the least of my concerns when considering shoes worn in the house! I will never understand how some people can wear their street shoes in the house. There is always the possibility of inadvertently stepping in dog dirt - usually we all know when we step in the fresh stuff, but we aren't as aware when we step in old, dried dog dirt or a smear of it. Also, I see people spitting in the street all the time, people urinate in the subways. We walk through all of that. Are some people truly okay with bringing all of that into their homes?

I have 7 birds in an open room, thankfully with laminate flooring. I find it amazing how much more dust there is throughout the rest of the house. Vacuuming daily in the bird room really helps, and it's easy to damp mop there. I use a damp paintbrush (with some cleaner in the water) throughout the home. You can dust at light speed before vacuuming lol. It's a game changer.

Guess I was looking for how to prevent dust getting into a home, not cleaning it up. All the protocols she mentioned are being followed but we have layers of new dust daily on Everything. I think it was why previous owner sold the home. Its like dust is being sucked into the home then sent out through the air registers. Which are on the ceiling and surrounded by dark brown dust.
@ExpertHomeTips
@ExpertHomeTips Ай бұрын
Our tips are mostly to help manage and minimise dust. To prevent dust from infiltrating your home, seal windows and doors, upgrade to HEPA air filters, and regularly clean air vents. Consider using air purifiers and minimising clutter to further reduce dust accumulation.

We were finding that dust would reappear within 3 days of vacuuming and dusting. It was frustrating. We then cleaned every square inch such as inside the furnace vents, the basement storage locations, under every piece of furniture, and the tops of all cabinets. Dust problem disappeared. It must have been sneaking out from hidden locations and repopulating central areas. A lot of work. Built ins make a lot of sense given our experience.

Changing furnace filters is a must, but periodic professional cleaning of the entire ductwork system connected to heat/cool vents and the exhaust vents must also be done...epecially when there are pets and carpets. Look at some of the KZfaq rug cleaners to guess what is in yours. Our Shark vac gets cleaned with Clorox wipes, hair/ threads removed from bottom, and the two filters layers removed and washed. As well, remember to keep the fridge bottom and back cleaned, including any exterior coils.
@ruthbowman5928
@ruthbowman5928 3 ай бұрын
Also, we use individual 4x12 *filters at floor vents. Keeps dust and debris trapped, from sweeping, floor traffic. Try PF Purafilters at Lowe's, about $5 a dozen. And be aware of pet bird and cage debris in the air you breathe.

I'm going to have to disagree with the whole blind vs curtains, slat blinds are extremely time consuming to clean, I clean professionally and slat blinds collect way more dust than slat blinds, curtains are much easier to shake off, or take down to clean, even vacuume, slat blinds are the WORST
