The Sheriff’s Office says they first received a report of a stabbing in the Village on Bryant Lane in Sheldon around 2:45 p.m. on Monday. There, they say they found a 47-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital by Beaufort County EMS. The man, who has not been identified, died of his injuries. A suspect was quickly identified, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They say that 53-year-old Akiba Meredith left the area after the stabbing. Meredith was located after Sheriff’s deputies, investigators, a Patrol K9 team, and the Aviation Unit assisted in the search. Meredith was arrested for murder and is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. It is unclear what may have led up to the stabbing. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says the incident is still under investigation.
