Yes, true - you are dependent on the quality of the domain - if it is a pretty shoddy domain in terms of content or at least in terms of Google's interpretation of the quality of the content/site then it will be tougher but I would still argue for this strategy as it will be an investment in the domain rather than in KZfaq. I do not think that we are going to see eye to eye on this point but I think that you make some valid points; thanks again for commenting.

The fact is you can download almost any video if you have the right software... or quality screen capture software. No online video is safe from thieves if they really want to use it.

I disagree again. To rank site videos on Google is much harder than ranking KZfaq. To rank site based videos you are dependent on the quality of the site. Plus all the Google updates relate to site based SEO and not KZfaq at least yet. This is backed up by rankingS for hundreds of keywords - this tell us to *promote* using YT videos - Then use site based videos to convert. By using site hosted videos you will not only take longer to rank but also miss out on additional YT rankings and views.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. We have larger clients & rank for many *very* competitive keywords. Our data clearly shows across the board that KZfaq videos rank more quickly and higher as compared to self hosted videos. And if a video is ranked via self hosting... we *know* we can always overtake it with YT. There is also little difference in conversion from view to action. YT rules across the board - and the more people that think otherwise is great news! (competitively speaking)

YT may well be a great source of referral traffic but that is a separate conversation.

By hosting videos on your own domain and NOT putting them on KZfaq you control links to the videos and embeds of the video. Yes; you need to have a way to create awareness of the videos through social media, email marketing, paid search or other methods but once you get people to your content then start getting shares and links it is your domain that gets them and not KZfaq. For a holistic long term SEO strategy this will do you more good than hosting on KZfaq.

Hi Andy - good to hear your opinion, even if it is one that is counter to ours. It really depends on the size of the business and the audience (or budget) that you have. If you are a small business that nobody knows about then it will be much tougher to get a lot of traffic to your own hosted videos than it would be to put the videos on KZfaq and use the existing community to promote them. However - this video is not just about traffic on specific videos; it is about SEO value overall.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Years of testing and working with clients show that KZfaq is the best for search results AND getting people back to your site as long as you have effective videos and calls to action. I think people could waste a lot of time trying to rank their own videos compared to using KZfaq as the promotion vehicle and then converting visitors back to your site. What is the cost of loss revenue and time if a video from your site takes 6 months longer to rank... if at all?
