You can be more precise and NOT warp a wing by laying one half of the wing flat on the build board like they say to do. But trim the spars your way first!!
@JamesRCPlaneTech7 күн бұрын
Thanks, makes sense. Trim them both, then set one wing on board like you say, and just double the height of the other wing. Good point! Thanks

Great job. I have never used hinge pins but I am intrigued. Why should you use hinge pins vs nylon hinges?
@JamesRCPlaneTech7 күн бұрын
I don’t think there is anything special about them. The traditional nylon hinges are great. I do like drilling the hole instead of slotting. Except for CA hinges since they are thin, slotting isn’t that bad. Comes down to personal preference I guess.

Perfecto nicely done Yah knw I didn't get the nack for those back in late 70s/80s, always off a bit but then again we didn't hv that jig. I belive the Dubro has the drill guide for horns incld & that can be for a pilot hole. The vaseline trick is a good one, I learned early on from an old timer scratch builder.

Great video as always. I probably would have used thin ply to strengthen the fuselage instead of the balsa you used, but that’s me ;-) Also I wouldn’t be able to live with the mismatch in covering. My OCD would have made me redo the whole plane 😂

Hi, ya there are not many places to fly unfortunately. I go to Whittier Narrows which is an L A County Park so its free during the week, 7 bucks on the weekend. But its a dump, I wish they would invest a little into the park, its very rundown. The actual flying field is ok, but lots of flight restrictions due to the freeway, gun range, and wooded creek area. The place that I may start going is the Pomona Valley RC club field, but thats 200 bucks to join and then 100 per year. Glad to have what we have I guess.
@yakattack106912 күн бұрын
@@JamesRCPlaneTech I thought that was the place. I haven't neen there in over 10 years. I live an hour away from there. I found it very distracting while the gun sounds were going off. My favorite place to fly was Mile Square Park in the nineties if you can believe it!

Some fuel tanks split or deform when the stopper expands. Its hard to see. It will result in low fuel pressure. Sometimes it better to throw the older tanks away.

0222 in case you don't know, those bends in the pushrod should NOT be there.! this is true regardless of what the kit instructions said. in other words, the installation of a pushrod should not include the use of bends like these. 1545 hardwood equals clear-grained poplar (or pine or spruce).
@JamesRCPlaneTech12 күн бұрын
Problem is that the rudder bottom is high up, so in order to engage it the control rod has to step up. It’s stiff and doesn’t flex so it works well. I agree however that you don’t want any bends if you don’t have to in control rods.

My take on it, if you notice the stringers on the main former at the front, they end even with the former. What I do in a situation like this is; I make notches on every former to fit the stringers, probably that way, you would be able to move the former forward to the correct position or closest to it.

ok so that loud rattle at about 60% or lower throttle is normal? I was so concerned with this fp 40 i'm setting up right now. its hardly used. I think i can hear the same sound in your vid as well as a couple others . I left another comment for you a short about this engine earlier regarding using synthetic over a blended castor mix. I think i'm just having trouble understanding when is way more advised to use one over the other? i know the one burns characteristics a little and VERY familiar with the way castor + time = glue 🥲 Thanks again James🙏
@JamesRCPlaneTech16 күн бұрын
Hi, ya these fps seem to run that way. It may be that they are just a little lower quality than the other OS lines, but they all have worked for me and fly for a long time, even with the weird noises and vibrations. i would just follow the instruction break in process. And run it with the right size props and fuel mixtures per the instructions. Sorry I don’t have a better answer. They are great engines, even though they may be a little rough around the edges. As for the fuel, I have not noticed any big differences in the synthetic vs castor mixes. The synthetics burn cleaner and leave less oil on plane. I run the Morgans Cool Power total synthetic because thats what my local shop carries. Its the green colored one. I have used the Morgans Omega which is a castor/synthetic blend, its the pink one and is more messy with oil. Castor does get a bad rap, but in my opinion I think people overthink it. There is a worry that castor will gum up and put a residue inside the engine. But if you empty the tank and run the engine dry to burn up the remaining fuel in the hose then I don’t thinks its a big deal. I have had old engines that I get that have been shelved for a very long time, one I had was probably 30 years old sitting, it was gummed up due to castor. I just heated it , and some oil and carefully worked back into motion, it started up and ran fine. I think as long as you run the engine a little rich like the manufacturers say to do, and run them dry after use(empty tank, start engine, burn up whats in the system), the particular fuel mix probably isn’t that important… but this is all just my opinion.
