I noticed that someone is making new copies of the original 70 W/Z factory performance dual exhaust manifolds. I actually got lucky and found some originals. Headers are such a pain! I have not installed them yet, but I think they will fit my 81 Cutlass 455 wagon. I originally just used the factory crossover pipes from my 69 455. My heater box prevented me from installing some really nice Speedmaster aluminum valve covers. I was thinking about modifying it with fiberglass to make room and all, but not yet. I had to drill holes in heater box to get pushrods out.
@rickstephens1130Ай бұрын
You have already ruined those headers! And you have wasted the 200.00 bucks that you paid for them. Those will never work
@rickstephens1130Ай бұрын
You are going to have a lot of problems later on down the road if you don't get these things figured out now. And you don't want that exhaust running up against the firewall at all, you will start having electrical problems and possibly a fire because those headers will get red hot and transfer the heat to everything that is on your firewall. I have a set of headers on my 1966 Oldsmobile, and I have seen how hot they get

So curiosity killed my cat and the neighbors.... Did you end up finding anything out or where the metal was coming from? Love the parts washer cleanliness... Run it until it doesn't flow out anymore. As often as it seems you are into these transmissions, I'm surprised you dont have a holding fixture. Another u tuber" HeadFlowInc" built one out of pipe. I followed his example including welding the threaded joints. It isn't pretty, but it works. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMClbNt_uJq2kn0.htmlsi=yprAOmmrXhVAy6dv
@thefakederekrufle3 ай бұрын
I have tried to make my own fixture. It works okay, I just find it easier to assemble it on the table since it's easier to stack the low reverse clutches since I don't have the pinion depth tool and when I get to the forward and direct section, I then use the trash can to hold it upright. I really don't intend to be in these that often but this is the first time I've had metal in the pan like this. I still don't know what it's from?
@arthurgoldman31363 ай бұрын
@@thefakederekrufle I would look at the pinions in the planetaries, where the torrington bearings ride, and places like that. There are not a lot of places to create ferrous (iron) wear.

Did you put main galley restrictors in the 2, 3 and 4 bearing oil holes? I used to buy parts from a guy who built a lot of Olds & Pontiac engines and he said they're badly needed. And restrictor pushrods are very helpful to keep too much oil from flooding the heads in these merry old Oldsmobile engines.

Hello......can a 4l80E lock-up solenoid try to lock up right from 0 mph and slowly accelerating from there? If I unplug the electrical power harness and the tranny goes into limp mode (2nd gear only) it runs perfectly smooth all the way up 6-70mph and back down. As soon as we plug electrical power back to the tranny right from 0 mph its trying to bog the engine down, vibrate, bucking and noise. It does that through all gears. If its popped into nuetral while coasting all of that bad stuff stops 100%.
