Until last month, I was unaware that Newport had so many mansions built during the Gilded Age. Thank you for watching!

Yes indeed. But almost all of the mansions built in Newport during the Gilded Age (1870 - 1910) no longer belong to the original heritage. It seems true that fortunes do not last more than 3 generations...

0:00- 0:20 A peak of interest this is actually the same location in the 1998 Godzilla film a guy is holding up a camera and Godzilla almost stepped on him that’s the same exact location.

It's pretty incredible. I just watched the scene. In the background is the former JPM headquarters, the tallest deliberately demolished skyscraper measuring 707 feet (215.5 m). I guess the cameraman was the luckiest man in the world that day... The technology with which we capture images has evolved rapidly. Thank you for your interesting comment.

Eat your heart out, Donald Trump. Mar a Lago is a rabbit hutch in comparison. (The first piece of music sounds to me like J-B Lully, The second is definitely by him. It's the March pour la Ceremonie des Turcs, from Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme. Easily found on KZfaq in various versions.)

At least they were destroyed for a supertall, which will impact the New York skyline. It's sad, but there's no more room on Fifth Avenue. Thank you for watching !

@@oneskyscraper208 they should put more bigger skyscrapers like JP Morgan chase these too thin for such a tall height

People say these skyscrapers are eyesores, but people don't say anything bad about international style skyscrapers which are cluttered in the skyline and look hideous, despite much more beautiful buildings were there before them.

@@oneskyscraper208 Art deco wasn't all between those years, mainly the mid 1920s and very early 1930s, the other styles that were built in those times were Beaux Arts, Neo-Classical, Neo-Gothic, Palazzo style, certain Renaissance styles and French-Second-Empire architecture, but all these styles I mentioned were and still are great, there's still probably many more styles of architecture from those years to.

Interesting. I remember watching the Twin Tower fall on 9/11. I remember seeing these skyscrapers in the foreground of many bits of footage. I remember thinking that the tower at 200 Vesey Street looked a lot like 'One Canada Square' (the first skyscraper in the docklands area of London) and yes it turns out that One Canada Sq. was designed by the same firm of architects that designed Brookfield Place. It's a small world.

Very tragic day. Many of us remember what we were doing on September 11, 2001. The Winter Garden reopened its doors a year later. Yes indeed. One Canadian Square looks a lot like 200 Vessey Street. It was also originally developed by Olympia and York Company, the same one that promoted Brookfield Place (World Financial Center) in New York City! Yes, it's a small world. One Canadian Square, the tallest building in the United Kingdom for 21 years (1991 → 2012), until Shard's completion. Thank you for your comment!
