They asked me at work what kind of music I’m into last week and answered “ prewar” they burst out laughing but I was deadly serious. The early thirties British Dance bands are timeless and perfect. Thank you for posting.

Ignore the ignorant remarks. You'd get amazed how many people of EVERY age group have enjoyed this music over the years. It was performed by young people and enjoyed by young people. It's still fresh and full of vitality but lacks the mind bending dross that is woven through alot of our own contemporary "music".

So happy to find this - thank you so much! Bert Read is my grandfather and I remember him playing the piano when I was little - he was also the most *amazing* teller of bedtime stories - I think his flair for 'storytelling' is evident here in his playing style too. Wonderful to hear this - thank you x

@JonathanHolmesjazz2 күн бұрын
@@JustABowlOfCherries they just used some Worldecho masters. The vocal take was one of the last things Worldecho recorded so this must have been a non vocal take which doesn’t appear in Rusts

Great one. And Scotty does quite a good impression of Harry Roy's band. This is not too surprising as he arranged many of Roy's recordings.

My Grandad, Charles Farrell is 2nd in from the right. I can vouch this is the genuine photo of the band playing on the recording. Charles went on to spend 20 years plus as the MC for the Empress Ballroom orchestra at the Winter Gardens. Excellent work Jonathon!

@@JonathanHolmesjazz Hi Jonathan, I’m unsure if I do but I’ll have a look to see. I know they went to the BBC to record a number of times and also (I think)featured in the film “Love on the Dole”. There is a photo on the web from about 1928, Charles F was born 1892, and seated next to him is a very young 18 ish Charley Barlow who went on to lead the Tower Ballroom Band.

Lovely - a bustling, bubbly quick step, with Scott-Wood's arrangement, especially the drumming and double trumpet work, a close take on Harry Roy's own version, complete with piano solo - superb sax from Freddy Gardner as always.
