Awsome video. Just did mine yesterday 2004 camry 197,000 miles. The plastic pieces were definitely brittle, I broke all 4 clasps on the coil connectors. I followed your queue to tie up all the cables out of the way it makes it much easier to install it. I appreciate you putting this together, it was very well done.

The gasket in mine was also really hard around the spark plug/ignition coils. A few seconds of the heat gun made them really easy to get out. Thanks for that tip!

Heat gun it's brilliant!.. I've had a few of these 2.4 Toyota systems they're all the same.. this gasket replacement is a must did you know that you can now buy a new valve cover for $45! I got the valve cover the gasket and the silicone sealant for $60 on eBay.. I've done this cleaning detail many times on the no matter how you do it it's never going to be as good as a new valve cover and now they are affordable

At 12:41 to 14:51, the bits you scraped-off, fell into the engine! An absolute no-no. Should be careful of that, nothing should fall into that part, as it will interfere with the cams and their timing. Those bits of old, dried gasket, are worse than the other "crud" you described earlier. Very well-made video, complete with overlay text. You took your time and showed every step, and that's fantastic. Good idea on that gasket heating with the blower.

Indeed, be wary to not let any debris fall into the engine. I liked his care with the Q-tip trimmed and rag running the groove with acetone.

Watched several videos on how to work with this specific car, urs is the best so far. What I have learned: credit card, heat gun, the tilt of the torque wrench which indicating that it reaches its max specs. I thought my torque wrench is not working because I don't hear any clicking sound like the bigger torque wrench. I have to subscribe to ur channel so that I can learn some more from you. God bless. Thanks.

There is a very easy fix in 5 minutes. Typically the oil is leaking from a very small pin hole. Just identify the location and use brake cleaner to spray around that area. Then put on some black gasket maker sealant from the outside over the seam. Wait overnight for it to harden. It worked like a charm for me and still holds after 1 year. Save me some bucks and time to replace the gasket.

@billclinton6040

That's all well and good if the leak is on the outside, and you don't plan to keep the car and want to offload the problem onto a potential buyer. But as the gasket continues to age, leaks can develop around the spark plugs allowing oil to seep into the cylinders. Unless you're afraid to turn a wrench, this is a cheap (less than the cost of gas or an oil change) and simple repair that anyone can successfully tackle. It is also a good idea to check or replace the PCV valve. A sticking or clogged PCV valve can cause excessive pressure in the head and be the reason the valve cover gasket developed a leak in the first place, not just age. The only caveat I would mention is that the ignition coil pack connectors might break and crumble when you disconnect them. However, your Toyota dealer should have the connectors, and they are fairly easy to replace.

one thing I would do before put on gasket , apply very thin sealant on both sides, then torque to 1/3 specs , wait for 1 hour later torque to full specs.

Meaning a lot of trash could have went down in the spark plug whole. So when you do take the spark plugs out that debris will be in there and fall in at a later time. Causing trash to be in the cylinder. My opinion.
@ccswear
@ccswear 3 жыл бұрын
@@clarencehunter3360 Thank you for the comment, that is a good point. My concern at the time was getting as much debris off the top of the valve cover as I could so it would not fall off into the engine when I removed the cover. I will have to remember to blow out the debris from the spark plug hole before I replace them next time.

I've seen a bunch of videos as I'm doing my valve cover gasket tomorrow but your the only one who thought of tying up the electrical harness on either side of the cover to have easier access. Which is a pretty good idea instead of fumbling with it when you have the cover in your hand.

How do u get the steam to work I have one but I couldn't find out how to make it work
@ccswear
@ccswear 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late response. For the steam to work, you have to add Lionel smoke fluid to the smoke stack and also switch ON the smoke unit ON/OFF switch located on the bottom of the engine. The manual also cautions "When the smoke unit switch is in the ON position, always keep a small amount of smoke fluid in the locomotive’s smoke generator; the generator’s element can become damaged if operated without smoke fluid." Here's a link to the manual. www.lionelsupport.com/media/servicedocuments/73-1936-250.pdf

I let a hinge problem go too long. While inspecting the very loose left hinge area. I cracked the LCD! So I bought a new LCD back cover, a new bezel, and a used excellent LCD on ebay. Thanks to your detailed videos, I was able to do the complete repair. I do have electronics experience, but could not have done it without your help! I spent more money than the laptop is worth, but hey it has all our stuff on it and works fine for our needs! Dec. 11, 2017

Thank you for the positive feedback, I'm glad you had a good outcome, aside from the broken LCD, I'm sure that was upsetting. Alas, my daughter's laptop hinges are once again having the same issue, but it lasted about 4 years this go around - I told her to keep her lid open and only close it when she had to :-) I think I'll start looking on ebay for a used one that has some other issue with it, maybe make one good one out of the two, we shall see ... in the mean time, keep those lid open/close cycles to a minimum ;-)

How is this unit still performing after 4 years?
@ccswear
@ccswear 7 жыл бұрын
Hello, it has been working fine with no problems so far. I change the pad out every year before the heating season, they are around $13, at which time I rinse out all the mineral deposits from the removable pad housing. I see a fair amount of mineral deposits when I change the pad, so if I didn't change it out every year or so, the deposits could build up to the point where it could cause clogging I think. We continue to use the outdoor thermometer feature on the humidistat almost daily, it's a quick and easy way to check the temperature. Thanks for your question!

I have latitude 3540 on which I need to replace the entire body. where can I find the full body?
@ccswear
@ccswear 7 жыл бұрын
I would look on ebay for someone selling one for parts/repair. Not sure what's wrong with yours but if the motherboard is good and it boots up and just the body is damaged, you might find someone selling one with a bad motherboard or one that won't boot fairly reasonable. I don't repair laptops for a living, so I don't know what would be involved with your particular model. Good luck :)
@apiitg
@apiitg 7 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. My laptop is functioning well but the body is fairly damaged like the hinges are broken and due to use with broken hinges now the bottom plastic near the battery is broken due to strain. I will look for someone selling a non-working laptop on ebay. Thanks for the advice.

You might consider a refurbished laptop, considering the labor & cost involved to replace the entire case. Back up all your personal data to an external drive first.
