This is great. I'm not necessarily a big fan of death metal, but somehow this song has made quite an impression on me. The drumming makes me think of early prog rock versus the later established virtuosity. Almost like Mitch Mitchell or even Levon Helm as compared to Bill Bruford or Carl Palmer. The later guys had the pinpoint accuracy, but the early guys had such creativity and jazz influence. Swing. Anyway I absolutely love this 😉

A lot of death metal drummers especially in the technical/progressive end of the genre definitely do take inspiration from that kind of drumming so you're probably pretty on the money. You should look up Jamie Saint Merat from Ulcerate on that note.
