Dan I think you are getting your steel guitar chord structures mixed up with a piano or keyboard chord structure. If you play the CEG chord open, you get a C chord. When you move the bar up two intervals, you actually move it one full tone or the equivalent of two fret markers, and you are now playing a D chord (D F# A), but not a D minor - unless you slant the bar to play the second note in the chord as a flat 3rd, which would be D F A.
@lesblack4133 күн бұрын
I know this has been commented on earlier, but the positions for the chords are known as root, first inversion and second inversion - not 1st, 3rd and 5th.

Are you able to have an interface with studio speakers hooked up to it and also have the akai plugged into the computer via usb? What would you set your audio settings to in reaper to hear the sound through the studio speakers when playing the akai? Thanks
@DThompson55Ай бұрын
Yes of course. I use a focusrite 2i2 Gen3. In my Reaper Preferences, under Audio/Device I make sure my audio interface is selected, and that I have all the volumes turned up to the desired level, and it just works. On the track itself I have the Record Monitoring set to On.

@DThompson5529 күн бұрын
@@sheldonswan45 The presets in the MPK Mini Editor only affect the keyboard itself, how its buttons work, which midi notes and CC they send. They have to send what Reaper is expecting, so to that extent I guess you're right, it does need to be loaded. But not before Reaper is started.

Which tuning is best for lapsteel ? C6th or E major. I got a tramus electra 6 string
@DThompson55Ай бұрын
It's a matter of taste, but C6th is kind of traditional. E13 is also a thing. But E major seems pretty limiting to me.

Hello, I am from Chile. What effects pedal do you recommend for a lapsteel..please.
@DThompson55Ай бұрын
I feel Lap Steel really likes reverb. I would get a nice one that also has a little bit of delay. I bought a Behringer DR600 because it was cheap. It's ok. I still use it. I also use an EB-VP volume pedal, but it takes some practice. Those are the main ones I use. When I listen to Larkin-Poe, they sometimes use overdirve and distortion. Personally I like a traditional Tube Screamer style of overdrive.

However, the running time of the sample changes with each note. So this use of the samples is definitely not the same as in the Reaper Media Explorer! Because if I transpose a sample in the Media Explorer, the running time of the sample remains the same...which is not the case in your example. 😉
@DThompson552 ай бұрын
If you want the samples to play the same length of time, the set RS5K to sample mode, not semitone mode, and follow it with ReaVoice in the FX chain.
@3d-marabu2 ай бұрын
@@DThompson55 Can you give me an example, please? I don't understand it. I just tried it, but you can't transpose note values with the same sample duration using the keyboard. And to be honest, I don't know what to do with the ReaVoice.
@3d-marabu2 ай бұрын
@@DThompson55 Reaper was acting up for me earlier, which is why it wasn't working. Now after restarting my computer, it works. You're the first person to give me the tip about ReaVoice. Thank you so much! It's a good thing I watched your video short clip. Buddy, I'm really impressed because the quality of the Reaper sampler with real-time transposes is much better than the TAL sampler. With the TAL sampler, the samples often start to clink and distort after the 3rd note up or down...but with Reaper, the quality remains pretty stable even when going up or down an octave. So thank you again! 😉👍

@@DThompson55 I am totally enthusiastic about the ReaSampler. Up until now I had always neglected it because I had no idea what it was capable of. I have the TAL Sampler... well, as of today it is most likely no longer of any use because it cannot achieve the same highly professional quality.

i don't know anything about that maker, but the description looks sketchy to me. Guitar is misspelled, they call it a pedal steel in the description, the wood is poplar, which is not a hardwood. I'd pass just based on attention to details. But boy, prices sure have popped on lap steel guitars, recently. Prepandemic the Rogue RLS-1 could be found for around $100.

Hi, I have a question. I bought an Akai MPK Mini MK3 midi keyboard. I would like to use the cc key function of the keyboard to assign reaper actions to the PADs using a section customized by me, for example: putting a track into record, muting a track... To be used in live to easily change tracks assigned to my midi keyboard and therefore have different sounds. I tried to do this, for example: putting track 1 into record but when I immediately release the PAD button the track goes back not into record as before. How do I assign the action with a PAD key, in CC mode so that even when released it remains? (For example I tried to do it by assigning the action to the letter Q on the keyboard and in this case once the letter is pressed it functions and the track remains in record). Thanks!

People will and should wonder what the heck I'm thinking here. I've been looking at advanced features of Reaper, among them the MK Slicer, which is what happened to Doug's vocals. But also considerable time working on new techniques of tempo mapping, and forcing a prerecorded drum loop to match Doug's subtle .variations in timing. Days spent reorganizing my samples libraries. I'm hoping these practices will pay off in the coming weeks and months.

Thank you so much! You’re a freaking guru! I picked a “used” one still in the box on Marketplace for $80 today. I can hear the AKAI through my external monitors which are outputs from a Digitech guitar processor I’m using as my audio device in Reaper. I can see the AKAI recording on a track in Reaper but I can’t hear anything on playback. This will give me some direction in sorting that out tomorrow.

So everything works...except with Super8. For some reason, the pads work perfectly with any drum vst but as soon as i try to use them with Super8 Looper (in CC mode also) they just don't work at all. The keys work fine and you can see the feedback in the bottom right corner of Super8's UI, but nothing with the pads. As they can't communicate with Super 8, despite the fact that there is feedback from the monitor when i hit them....

@@DThompson55 Indeed, as a guitar player myself, i'd use a foot controller ( i have a foot switch plugged to the sustain jack entry at the back of the Akai) to trigger record/play functions...and then use the pads to arm a different track when i'm done playing a riff. It was pretty easy to setup on Ableton but i'm sure it can be done on Reaper..i just can't figure out. Enjoy your road trip and thanks for your videos!!
