Thanks for the video... What about when playing CHORDS? It feels uncomfortable to turn your hand so far while playing a chord.

I'm not sure if it was me, but this seemed out of tempo at certain parts. I'm learning this now so I always like to listen to different interpretations. Another teacher on KZfaq emphasized this should be played in a precise "metronomic" way.

Hi Shirley, Just wanting to ask how you'd label the harmony of bar 13? Contextually unusual G-sharp minor, though is it perhaps related to the E chord following, the D-sharp as a lower neighbour? Or maybe just a colouristic chord as Kabalevsky does at times to avoid the same harmonisation for the B natural across two bars? Thank you, and sound information re the hand and wrist movements here!
@ShirleyKirsten
@ShirleyKirsten 9 күн бұрын
I would call it a harmonically coloristic chord. Essentially if you think of a G# chord progressing to an E Major chord that is a familiar type of Romantic era progression enlisted by a 20th C. composer.. if you compress a drop from G# minor chord to E Major chord. characteristic Third drop --Minor to Major that is evocative of drops by Schumann, Chopin..and they are full of expression that tweak the ears--The E Major chord then becomes a secondary Dom. to A minor (m. 15). .and then the composer pivots to the second half of the melodic form of D minor.. starting on A. B. C# D. ..

@@ShirleyKirsten Thank you for that answer, Shirley. Understood, and I see then the opposite occurs in bars 10-11 where there is a rise of a 3rd from the major form of chord I to the III (FM); chromatic mediant-like. These two places the most interesting bars to me for colour here!

I've just discovered this new version of the piece. It's interesting to see how it has evolved over five years. The spirit is entirely different. The almost perfect equality shifts the emphasis to a higher level. This is awesome. Thank you!

I have this issue too. I'm playing Bach C minor prelude and Fugue. I have adjusted fingers with shaping...in and out in order to avoid getting trapped and destroying the tone. Just not as efficient as it could be with thinner fingers....

Very helpful. I am an older guy, revisiting piano lessons I had, 70 years ago, yes, 70, and taking lessons, for BWV 999, which I hope to play as a performance for family, in July, back in Massachusetts, currently and for the last 10 months, in Ukraine. Thanks again. Very helpful.
