Brother's the Latin church I was born into and was part of does not exist anymore. The Latin church went with Augustine in its inception and then replaced him with Aquinas. The Latin church of today is just another form of protestantism as it relates to theology constantly reinventing and developing. To be Catholic is to be orthodox it is a mindset in the heart, not some temporal academic rationality. My Latin brethren you spend your time defending men ie Francis and not Christ who is the head of the Church. We have heretics in leadership in orthodoxy however, they will fall away as has happened over the ages. The issue with papacy it is baked to your dogma one guy can rearrange the church on the whim.

Does Fr. John talk about all of this in his book “Deifying relations”? If not where can I read more about Constantinople/Rome ecclesial understandings?

Sorry brother love your stuff but the deeper you go into the first few centuries the more you find that the claim of the papacy is false. Also- never had a Catholic answer this for me. If Peter was “the rock” and “the pope” right away and that was totally understood from the beginning why in acts chapter 15 was there even a need for a council? Why take James’s opinion over peters? Shouldn’t that have been the “easiest” time to enforce the papacy if it had just literally been given to him by Christ? Respect for Catholics, y’all get a bad rap for stuff that is not true… however! EO is the truth 😁☦️

IMO it was a flawed debate from the beginning. The Papacy is far too broad a topic to cover in 2 hours, even when constricted to a historical discussion of the first millennium. Both sides can claim instances that supposedly evidence their position and get away without a serious scrutinizaion of their claim. This makes for a very inconclusive debate, with each side unleashing a broadside of claims without much support. I would much prefer a debate on a specific instance of Church history. For instance, a debate on The Formula of Hormisdas would easily cover 2 hours, while also allowing the speakers to go into depth about what this particular instance proves about the Papacy. Sadly, a debate like this would get much less attention than something like trying to cover the entire history of the Papacy in the first millennium.

The point about Vigilius and Honorius as to why it's so damaging to the RC position is because both cases are impossible to conceive in the present RC system post Vatican I. In otherwords, no general council in RCism today would ever do with the Pope what the councils did to Vigilius and Honorius (i.e. excommunicate) did in the first millennium.

It was a good debate. Erick, you could debate Dyer in a formal style debate like Pinesap and Luigi did. Jay can do a respectful debate in a formal setting. He had a really good and respectful debate with Trent Horn on natural theology.

My guess is that Luigi is being coached by Perry Robinson, and most likely has his debate scripts written by Perry. I know Perry has written scripts for Ubi and Dyer for debates. The reason I say that is that Luigi's posts 6 months ago when he was received don't mirror what he is reading in debates, at least in the level of argumentation.
