New bladesmith here. I can make decent knives, but what I really struggle with is sharpening. I have a 1x30 with that same guide. What rpm do you like for your machine? Although mine is fixed speed, I can install a variable speed device. Thanks

As an artist that works in polished stone; I can see the benefits of higher grits. My final polish on most stones is 14,000 grit, some up to 50,000 grit.

Isn't the red ScotchBrite wheel 240 grit? You deburr with that rather than the ScotchBrite 600?

Sorry I know its a bit confusing because that is still my very own first prototype 600 grit wheel before I had it made green to avoid just that question

there are wheels out there of a similar type but these are made with my own blend of abrasives and a certain hardness that allow then to really work well.

Another great video. I would like to know more about measuring edge angles. What is the 0 degree on a knife and also on a scissors? A 30 degree on a knife is different than a 30 degree on a scissors. Is 90 degrees always the belt angle? Once you mentioned that a scissors edge had a 0 degree angle, but if the belt angle is at 90 degrees, wouldn't the angle perpendicular to the belt be a 45 degree angle? That is a video I would be really interested in. Thanks for sending me 3 scotch-brite belts. I have yet to use them to remove scratches on a Coup Coup machete and a Colombian machete restoration. Have a great day!

I actually do often when doing work that is dangerous. You "see" the thing is for knife sharpening you typically arrange to work so that dust, sparks, and sharp objects are all going directly away. I do wear glasses regularly but its difficult when teaching. I will try to do better...thanks

Excellent video ! one suggestion: twice as many passes on each grit, to better remove the scratches left by the previous grit. I use a 1x42 machine, with P120 (damaged edges), P220, P400, P1000, P2500 belts. (that's 125, 68, 35, 18.3, 8.4 microns) then coarse and fine compounds on leather. Good for kitchen knives, chisels, plane irons, gouges. Just watch the heat ... dip in water if edge gets too hot to touch.

Hi Cliff I was going to order some 1/2cx12" Ceramic belts from the website but there was only a half a dozen or so grit sizes P80 to P240. I am just getting into personal knife sharpening and thought I would need maybe P80 up to maybe P1000 or P1200? Asking for your advice. Once I get into it and more comfortable I will upgrade to a 1" belt sharpening grinder. Thanks for any help Cliff.

sure no problem the cubitron belts are for heavier work like first step, damage removal etc....after that the trizact belts are where it is at and they can go as far or farther then you want or need! Hope that help

Are your Rincon grinders getting really hot? Just used the grizzley version of the same tool and after just 6 knives this thing is really hot, im betting its the variable speed recifier creating all the heat. I used it on the lowest setting so betting it generates a lot of waste heat on low. Using the belts i bought from you on it, they seem to work well.
