Yeah, but it did what I needed it to do... for awhile. Eventually the little piezo thing fell off and now just rattles around in the body until I get some time (and money) to replace it with something better. However, the neck is still amazing. It has better action than some of my electric guitars.

@@HandlebarWorkshops hey don't get me wrong I have one of these I just put 6strings my problem is i cannot remove the neck coz i can't unscrew it. hard to unscrew coz the past owner rounded the philips screw on it. however the action is still low. sound good on 6 string though.

What I've noticed is that those screws will loosen a bit over a few years and my string action gets a bit high. I just need to tighten those screws to bring it back down. There are ways to remove those screws and replace them with new ones. But if it is working for you, no need to mess with it.

Hello. So the only way I can get a straight neck with the strings on is with a backbow with them off .. and I'm afraid of something bad happening. Any suggestions
@HandlebarWorkshops
@HandlebarWorkshops 2 ай бұрын
No. I'm sorry if that is what I implied. Some necks stay perfectly straight whether the strings are on or off. It all depends on the wood used for the neck. I don't mean different species of wood like mahogany or maple, but even two necks made of the same wood can be different. It all depends on the density of the wood, how the wood was dried, how the wood was carved, which part of the tree the wood came from, etc. If you can't get the neck to be flat any other way, then this is a valid way to address the issue. What I show here is more of a last step.

4 washers is about 1/4 of an inch, how many threads in the bolt are in contact with the threaded truss rod?
@HandlebarWorkshops
@HandlebarWorkshops 4 ай бұрын
The threaded portion of the rod protruded from the nut, so more than enough bite. That is why I needed the 4 washers, so it wouldn't bottom out on the threaded portion. It was compressing the wood, but I was hoping that the wood had already compressed to the point where it couldn't compress anymore. But that was not the case. The bow has come back in the years since I've fixed it, but still not as bad as it was.

Thanks for this, I really enjoyed watching your video! I have the exact same cajon. I bought the pricier model hoping to avoid issues, but I've found the extra metal hardware actually creates a ringing tone which sounds bad. Especially when mic'ing the cajon for live performance or recording. I think I might try and put some duct tape on the metal crosspiece to dampen the ringing. Do you have any other ideas? I don't really care much about being able to disengage the snare wires, and so I've even wondered about installing an alternate snare wire system if that doesn't work.

Nice job. Im located 40mins from Chicago and i must say trying to keep a shop up above freezing year round is quite expensive. Ill be making this similar cabinet for my shop. One thing to add would be some aluminum lining on the inside. Now that you've had some time using this smaller heater for your shop how much more has your electric bill gone up.

@HandlebarWorkshops 6 ай бұрын
That small heater is nothing compared to the big, 240V electric heater I have to keep the shop warm when I work in there. I did fully insulate the garage and I had insulated garage doors installed when we built the garage. It's probably better insulated than my 1960's house. While that big heater keeps the whole shop warm, it is expensive to run 24/7. That little heater is like having a light bulb on all the time. It's not free, but much cheaper than having to buy new glue and paint every year.

I found a 1930's GE coil top fridge I'm converting ($35 nonworking), it is insulated & metal inside & out. I'm going to paint it, have a buddy do some pin stripes on it, if I get energetic maybe some gold leaf lettering. The obvious thing to check is that you didn't put the battery in upside down. I'm sure you didn't, but needs to be said. Otherwise, you may want to check the battery contacts. Make sure they are clean without any corrosion. Also make sure that they are touching the battery in the proper places. Sometimes they can get bent and either do not make contact with the battery or they touch the battery in the wrong place.

In my opinion, this may be an older video, but it's relavancy is just as applicable, as when it was produced; & it has been really well explained. I cannot understand why it only has a 'like' rating of ~1.45%, per views. I have acquired a couple of older Sony 8" subwoofers, pulled from cheap audio equipment. In attemtping to research the design requirements, for a custom subwoofer, I quickly discovered the issues surrounding using drivers, with unknown parameters, which led me here, eventually. And, I have found out, that Sony do NOT share their tech: what a surprise. Even though I know the speaker models, any technicals are not to be had, on the internet. As someone who is not an audio guy, but has some electronics' ability, I preferred a video that was presented in plain speak. Your idea of using a phone, with a frequency app is just what the doc ordered 👌. Given my Denon AVR is bluetooth capable, I am able to simplify the connections, somewhat 😵‍💫: headphone jack>jack to 3.5mm jack>3.5mm to RCA adaptor cable. Then, a cut off RCA cable, with a 10ohm resistor soldered to the positive? I think I'll just do the lazy way, & use the supplied spreadsheet. Thanks, mate.

Thank you. I think a lot of people disliked that I used rice instead of clay or playdoh to weight the cone. But other than that I think most other things went pretty well. There is another video where I attempt to design an enclosure for this speaker that didn't go very well due a misprint of a formula on the website. I should go back and fix it, but it's pretty low on my priority list.
@citizengkar7824
@citizengkar7824 11 ай бұрын
@@HandlebarWorkshops Thanks for letting me know, you are still monitoring this video. I have a question, that may/may not relate to your measurement parameters: the amplifier you showed, does it fit the stipulated requirements -ie. 1-10W RMS, & an output impedance of <0.01 ohms? I am not sure how crucial this is. I only saw this once I thought about setting up, for my testing. So, am unsure if my amp (Denon X1100W) would work, as I cannot find the pre-measured impedance, of it. The manual only relates to the speakers. I do have other options: another, older Denon. But that also may not be viable; & it involves unpacking it. Also, a Logitech Z501 (?) PC speaker setup. Have more research to do. But, it's not that urgent. PS. it that is the only reason people have not liked it; well...🤨. Personally, I thought the rice was an excellent innovation, as it is easy to place, & remove; it is dessicated, so won't take in moisture easily; & not possible to inadvertently damage the inner cone, like placing a semi-pliable product could.
@HandlebarWorkshops
@HandlebarWorkshops 11 ай бұрын
@@citizengkar7824 While doing research for this video, I did not read anything about output impedance, nor about the RMS. This method isn't meant to be (nor can it be) extremely accurate, but doable for someone to do once or twice without investing in expensive tools. It's meant to get close enough to get a good (but not necessarily a HiFi) sound out of a speaker. After all, since it is a fairly unknown speaker, you probably didn't pay much for it anyway. You just want to make it sound as good as possible without spending too much more money. It would be cheaper to buy a new speaker with known parameters than to buy all of the scientific tools to do this at a high level of accuracy.
@citizengkar7824
@citizengkar7824 11 ай бұрын
@@HandlebarWorkshops I do agree all you've said. Though, it does state those requirements, on the Elliott site, you've linked. "1.1 Measuring Re, Fs, Qes, Qms and Qts To measure these parameters using the method outlined below, you'll need to have the following items: A power amplifier, rated at 1-10 Watts (RMS) or thereabouts (must have low output impedance <0.1 ohm) Audio frequency oscillator (PC based is fine) Digital multimeter (with frequency measurement), or PC based instrument An accurate test resistor (any value, although I suggest 10 ohms) A ½W component will be quite sufficient. Alligator clip leads - you will need 4 sets of leads (leads may be soldered instead if desired)"

@HandlebarWorkshops 11 ай бұрын
That Elliott site has changed since I used it for this video. For a while it was a 404, then when it came back one of the formulas was different. I haven't gone back to see if that new formula would result in a better end result with this speaker. I don't remember any of that list being there, but it's been years, so my memory of all that may be a bit off.

I would have used a fence to register off the side that I squared up on the jointer. Or maybe you are asking why I did not use the jointer to flatten both sides of the armrest. @HandlebarWorkshops
@HandlebarWorkshops Жыл бұрын
Put the new strings on and look at how the neck responds. If you do need to adjust the truss rod, then go ahead and do it. No need to try to predict it before hand. Don't worry, you won't break the neck. The more immediate concern when increasing string gauge is if the nut will need to be re-filed to fit the thicker strings. If the nut slots are too thin for the strings to lay in the nut properly, the strings will sit high on the nut and you'll never get good action and it will cause tuning issues. Phil McKnight from Know Your Gear has some great videos on how to properly file a nut. The process isn't that difficult, but too complex to describe in the comments.

Well, it seems to work, my shop wanted to charge me 60 euros to replace the two batteries inside, but I only found one CR2025 in there, which I had lying around anyways, thus a cheap DYI fix.
