Its all about biology/genetics and culture/society/religion, good genetics is the base that results in good governance and that mixed with appropriate culture results in growth; bad genetics results in bad governance but if mixed with good culture results in stagnation; bad genetics results in bad governance and if mixed with bad culture results in degrowth and disintegration of the state into tribalism that by virtue of its small size results in good culture meaning stagnation in a small state; good genetics combined with bad culture results in bad governance and de growth resulting to conflicts/fragmentation and conflicts/fragmentation improves culture and results in growth which results in consolidation which means further growth until culture becomes bad and the cycle repeats. China had always been on top respective of other nations for most of history, its culture turned bad due to decadence and Marxism, reforms were made and growth resumed; China always had a good base which is its genetics, not something most of the third world have so for them, using what they have is already difficult and results in eventual failure unless they are conquered by great countries and forced to have good culture under the yoke of those with good genetics which will result in some growth, but if they are decolonized then they revert to their baselines. The US had good genetics and culture initially making growth after decolonization possible, India had bad genetics and culture making real growth impossible after decolonization.

I had a lot of faith that China would be by far the leading economy of the 21st century but after Xi consolidated power I am not so sure. Strong central leadership has had the same problem since absolute monarchies, the fortunes of the country often depend on competent leadership, which seldom comes around, if at all. What's more, often to maintain their power, the cost paid is in corruption and ossification of the elites.

I'm hardly anything even remotely close to a China expert but it does seem that your argument over the course of this video series is aimed at discrediting Xi. I'm not saying that's wrong (because honestly, I'm not educated enough on the topic to know) but it does stand out to me.

Another idea (which I believe to be more efficient): Patents: Implement a tax for those who decide to protect technologies, formulas, and methods. But not just any tax, rather a specific type of tax created by Arnold Harberger. This tax is a self-assessed property tax with forced sale. The owner determines the value of the taxed property themselves and pays tax based on that value. This might seem easily prone to fraud - owners could simply declare a low value to pay less tax. However, the forced sale provision addresses this issue; anything taxed can be forced to be sold, which encourages owners to increase their property values. Copyrights: A concept similar to Baker's, but without any tax deductions or the creation of charitable institutions. The government establishes an entity (let's call it the Artistic Works Fund). Artists place their works in this entity, forfeiting the ability to register copyrights on them. Once registered with the entity, these works can be freely funded by the public, who receive a voucher exclusively for financing artworks registered in the Artistic Works Fund. This voucher would be funded by a Citizen's Dividend, meaning money the government collects through ad valorem taxes on natural resources, akin to what Alaska does.

Chinese history has always interested me in 100 years China went from warlords and war crimes being committed against it which have yet to be answered for to being the next in line for the top spot of global superpowers. The thing about being on top is that everyone wants to knock you off, America and China must make and maintain peace and cooperation for the future of humanity. Great idea for a series!

Ghilladucci has a lot of pithy comments about the current state of retirement and Social Security, inter alia. I was curious and looked her up on wiki. She is going to turn 67 in 2024...it appears to me she is still working! I am not criticizing her but I wonder if that is slightly ironic and what her response might be.
@raymondmiller50983 күн бұрын
Since she's working as an academic (rather than "breaking her back" in the sevice sector, or something similar), have you considered that she may still be working at 67 because she finds this topic intellectually rewarding and important for American society? Apparently not.

Very interesting. But no mentioning of Deng, implementing hundreds of small local banks, financing small and medium businesses. These local banks created the credit (out of thin air), the community needed and guided the fresh money into the productive economy, like good banks always did and do in times and countries that took or got the right to prosper. Also not mentioning that Deng may be informed by Kissinger about the long term plan of his hidden elites, to move the material base of the steering of the world from the west to China. The west was so often revolutionary and westerners make so terrible slaves, that it was rational for Kissinger's hidden elite to look for other places. So China was chosen. Then allover the world things began to happen, nobody in the western middle class liked and profited of, like my German Kanzler Helmut Schmidt allowed to export the most advanced steel factory of the world to China. The average Joe knew, they will no more buy German steel and later will take over the global market. The steering elite behind the scenes did so much to develop their beloved China. The world dominating boom had not be possible without concerted help from outside and the intentional moving of the industries out of the so badly hated west into a China where the people tolerate everything, and the government is able to force the unwilling and go on with no more protesters. It would match with Dengs advice, to wait bowed down, because he knew, bowing down is the critical quality for being chosen, and that good times will be blown ashore if China manage his population to bow down continuously. I think, Kissinger sprayed fog, when he recently said, that is was always clear, that after a period of working with China against Russia, the empire had to work with Russia against China, and that the leaders didn't change politics in time. Kissingers hide elites wanted the things to develop as they developed.

The bright side is this: Xi sincerely wants to improve China, and as long as prosperity remains he will not need to worry about political revolt (also known as elections in America). Therefore China has the will, the vision, and the opportunity to succeed with continued growth. Compare this with America where politicians seek only to win reelection as opposed to putting into place long-term strategies for domestic improvement. Wars (cold and/or hot) generate popular support, at least initially, and this is why US politicians love war and keep the USA at war.

You need political stability at top level and social cohesiveness at the other end for a big country and large population like China. Without the above 2, they won't success in revitalising the country and they know it very well. Authoritarian or capitalism are not that relevant. To paint them with authoritarian or capitalism or which one is better is just missing the point or even misleading.
