Gasoline Alley is most definitely worth the visit! The basement also has the most interesting collection of old cars and trucks, from the early 1900s to the 50s. Included in the price of admission; allow well over one hour, just to visit Gasoline Alley. Then, there's also a real steam train to ride and antique midway for the kids. And also a real streetcar ride, all for the price of ad,ission. I almost forgot the food, such as the homemade bread, which is available to purchase. Cooked on site. And during summer, an electric paddle wheel boat ride on the Glenmore Reservoir (included in the admission)😊 Outside the gate in a replica 1950s setting, a couple of cafeterias at moderate prices. (Such as for freshly-prepared sandwiches). There's also food (including ice cream) inside the gate. You can also bring your own lunch and eat it under the trees. But note: No dogs or other animals, except for service animals. They will be refused at the gate.

I grew up in North Van, Highlands neighbourhood so recognize everything. One odd sight was seeing the Red Ensign Flag at the Legislative Buildings in Victoria. The red & white Maple leaf flag became official on February 15, 1965 so I wonder why it was not flying ion that day in 1969. I have lots of vintage 8 mm film being digitized and have the editor correct the jumpy camera work in places. You have some real bad spots and sections that need colour correction.

It's a good thing you managed to get the Albert Memorial in. There's a woke campaign now to tear it down as "it symbolises colonialism and imperialism".

An architectural firm, Unecon, designed the buildings and an engineering firm, Associated Engineering, designed the roads and services. I was responsible for the engineering design from 1979 through 1981. And worked with Ian Waters, the architect, to site and develop every lot individually so that the town did not look like a typical ;mine town'. At the time there was no road access and everything was either barged up from Vancouver by Rivtow, or flown in, usually in a Grumman Goose, from Rupert. We put in the sewer and water systems, and even had as satellite dish. There was a strike at the Endako Mine and the price of Moly hit around $30US/lb. The strike was settled and the price soon dropped back to something over $3US/lb. And that's when the mine shut down. Thanks for the posts. Bring back a whole lot of really good memories.

I'm not positive, but, I believe some of the first footage is of the now outlawed, Slush Cup on Mt. Baker. Identifying Mt. Shuksan in the back ground would confirm this. Would have been on a 4th of July before 1975.

Brings back a lot of memories as a youngster growing up in Wpg late 60s-early 70s. The Genie natural gas sign. Long gone companies like BA and Roco gas stations. How about Security Storage? And the cigarette ads. The old Safeway logo. And, yes the frost shields on cars. Remember my dad having them on his '62 Fairlane. That '65 Impala convertible would be worth quite a bit today. People also didn't seem to be in a hurry like nowadays.

This video has me chuckling, Ron (buckshot) is my uncle and he STILL only knows the first verse. Whenever we’d play it with our band (in recent years) we’d only ever do the first verse lol. Unless Jim (Benny) was playing with us, because he actually sang this on the show. ❤

Just think of the insanity of having marshals spectators and safety vehicles on the edge of the track!! Glad we evolved expanded brain power over the last 70 years. I saw the last 3 GPs up at the real track. Beautiful footage.

As a new immigrant from Scotland, I was invited to go to Haynes point with a family in the late 60's. They had two sons of my age. It was an amazing time and a trip that I have never forgotten. Camping on Haynes point was like being on a desert island

Sadly no. It's been a very long time. However, the Rocky Mountaineer does provide a summertime overnight trip to Vancouver, rather pricey.
