That’s a cool piece. But I can tell you it’s definitely older than 70s. It still has the old RCA lightning bolt logo on everything. Those were pretty much done by about 1967 or 68.

Ah the ceramic cartridge... most were absolute drudge and wear out records three times as fast. Best substitute an entry level moving magnet cartridge that tracks five times lower and an aftermarket phono preamp which are cheap and easy to find these days. Your records and ears will thank you.

Your video was very helpful. I have a Granada that the bottom platter was rubbing the induction magnets. I did not realize that the screw on the bottom adjusted the platter height. Now it’s perfect. The only question I have is how to eliminate the hum on the coils? It’s not super loud but it does hum loud enough to hear coming up through the board. The coils get warm but not really too hot to the touch. Wondering if you can offer any advice? Thanks!

My buddy and I moved a Muntz combo console when we were in eighth grade. Figure about 14 years old. Wheeled it on a cart up a big hill about two miles from where he lived. We were tired. It had been raining all day. It was extra heavy being wet and slippery. We set about taking it down the walk out basement stairs. Me on the bottom walking backwards and he on the top. About part way down I didn't think I could manage anymore. But I had to because there was no way to set it down. So damn heavy and very frightening to realize you've got to succed. I've moved and picked up and carried too many heavy things. Thankfully I'm not disabled. But I've dealt with bulging discs and chronic back pain. I'm also somehow 2-1/2" shorter than I used to be... Be careful, but get at it and get it done!

I know this is an older video series, but it’s exactly what I need as I’m going to attempt to rebuild my VV4-3 single barrel (2 spring) motor. It looks exactly like this, only no speed indicator needle to deal with. I’m a tinkerer, but never done this before. This video seems perfect, thanks. I’m missing one weight on governor, so hoping I can order it. This one has never been cleaned, so lots to do. My crank handle doesn’t wind at all, just spins. I’m guessing I’ve got a broken spring, but won’t know until I open this up. Fingers crossed.

My wife just got one Grafonola as a gift, it was her great grandmas, thinking is 1920's do you repair them? can we send it out and can you get us your cost to repair?, I'm a little nervous to do it my self , I'm pretty handy but just thinking how far along this has been in the family puts a lot a pressure.

Nice set of videos. I have the older (Circa 1904) 2-spring motor from a Victor III, each spring housed in its own barrel. Also, mine has no speed indicator. I may need to replace the turntable spindle as it has a slight wobble, seemingly from a slight bend in the shaft. Motor was disassembled, cleaned and calibrated recently so no urgency to disassemble it right now.

Do you happen to know the size of the ball bearing that goes on top of the spindle… I’m rebuilding one just like yours but it didn’t have the ball bearing to begin with

That was a great find. The tv can be upgraded to a thin flat screen tv. You won’t find parts for the old tv anymore. Just strip out the tv bezel and chassis and crt and a flat screen will fit nicely

Your videos have been extremely helpful to me on my project to repair my VV-90. The spring was severely overwound years ago resulting in the oval hole on the lower spring to become damaged causing the spring to slip during winding. I’m new to KZfaq but am wondering if you have a video which describes how to repair the end of a damaged spring. I haven’t been able to find one. Thank you for the videos which have enabled me to disassemble everything without breaking anything.

I have a 1912 with the (a)after the number and it the same spring.

This series shows how gramophones have precision that's also simple, for the most part they were built and designed in an era where reliability and maintainability was important. Reasons why me and other folks have been able to get them running with just a basic knowledge of mechanics and lubrication diagrams. I keep the mechanism in mine lubricated with Vaseline and 3 in 1 oil, why use other lubricants when it says what to use and it's worked for a very long time? (the vaseline and oil is only for the gearing inside and is not for the springs)

Excellent video / tutorial. I have a VV-210 in working condition. It plays but does make the thumping noise you described from the motor. I plan to service it myself, having several years of antique radio repair experience, gunsmithing. Thanks for creating this video and sharing your knowledge. I had no idea how this Victrola motor operated. Thank you!
